Can somebody explain dp for us non weather heads.

dp is dew point. It is a measure of moisture (or rather lack of it) in the air. Basically anything under 0C chances are you will have snow - go even slightly above that and your chances evaporate very quickly. Dew Points spectacularly low right now for Ireland due to dry continental air.

Ground surfaces are cooler than air temp and it wouldn't take much of a shower before it would stick

Snow in shankill and quite a lot of it too. Up past enniskerry in wicklow apparently has huge amounts. Up to 2/3 inches at the moment.

Moderate snow at the moment, with about 2-3 cm on the ground.
Current temperature -1.1°C, Dew -2.0°C . Fantastic fun druiving home, I'm fairly used to driving in snow at this stage so was happy enough. Saw three crashes on the way , most Irish drivers are muppets in this weather, would guess all of them we caused by effective tailgating, normal safe distance is tailgating in this weather.

People seem not to realise what sleet is.

Sleet is wet snow not snow grains or graupel.

Sleet is wet and not dry grains.

All the snow had gone, but in the last five minutes we have had enough to give everything a healthy white covering again. It was a very heavy snow shower, but it's nearly stopped again now.

    Temperature: 0.5 °C
    Dew Point: -0.6 °C
