I was happy to hear that until reading that the proposal is to go back to straight knockout championship.
FFS, 1 game in May in the flagship competition of Kerry football is going to seriously decrease the incentive for teams to put in proper preparation. Divisional teams are already at a disadvantage. 7 days before the recent Co Semi finals, Mid Kerry and Shannon Rangers players had to play Co League with their clubs which hardly helped their preparation...this proposal will only weaken them further. The current system, despite its imperfections had at least allowed teams a second chance, which gives them a better chance to gel and develop.
What this will also lead to of course, is shed loads of the best club footballers in the county (including fringe county panelists) heading away when their team is defeated in the 1st round.
I agree with cutting the number of club teams down as a number of them are patently not good enough, but I sincerely hope the rest of it doesn't happen.

district teams are at an advantage anyway because their county players are rarely allowed train with them, cutting the teams down is the right approach but not sure asbout the rest

Info on the County Final, looks like common sense is prevailing, opening the turnstiles at each end of the ground should help a lot

    Big Match Arrangements
There will be 3 Ticket Vans in operation outside the ground, opening at 11:15am with 16 windows in operation for ticket purchase.
Admission to Sunday’s games is €15 for Adults and €10 for Students and OAPs with a valid ID.
Under 16s are Free, they do not need a Ticket but must enter the Ground through one of the 3 designated Family Gates.
There will be a special Pass Gate in the Stand Area for Pass Holders such as Cairde Chiarrai, County Board Pass, Press Pass, Season Ticket Holders etc - They will not need to queue at Ticket Van.
Wheelchair entry is by way of the usual entry point
Patrons are asked to purchase tickets in advance where at all possible through the various ticket outlets at Garveys in Dingle, Tralee and Castleisland, Peter Keanes in Killorglin, Supervalu and Centra Stores throughout the County, Austin Stack Park and the Kerry GAA Store in Killarney.
Students and OAPs who purchase Adult tickets at these outlets in advance will get €5 refunded at the special Concession Gate that will be in operation on the production of a valid ID.
Turnstiles will open at 11.30am sharp and stiles will be open in The Mitchels End, Front of Stand & The Horans End.
We urge all supporters to arrive to the venue early to avoid delays – Enjoy the games!

Best wishes to Star and the Rock boys from the Dublin based Boherbue boys.

Must say I am disappointed that both Aiden o Mahoney and Donnacha Walsh missed out on all stars as I thought both had great years for Kerry.

I would have liked to see Donnacha get an All Star as well but,

The competition for half forwards was tough, couldnt begrude any of the lads that got the All Stars,Flynn,Murphy and Connolly all had great seasons as well

Connolly all had great seasons as well

he had the most over hyped season i remember. great for his club and great for part of the semi final, but average for alot of the remainder of the year.

he just about deserves an all start, but the fact that he is up for POTY is a shambles considering he finished joint 19th in the top scorer list and scored 22 points less than the other forward he is up against for the award.

    Have to disagree here.

Connolly was wonderful all year,The semi final v Ballinderry was a super performance as was his final v Castlebar.

His point v Tyrone in the league to put Dublin through to the semi's was one of the scores of the year as was his goal v Monaghan.

He is an incredibly gifted footballer and i think he deserves his award.

P.S - Remember the Gooch got an All-Star in 2010 after scoring a grand total of 1-9 from play in 4 championship games

He deserves no All-Star and is no role model for the GAA, he was Dublin's best player but this Dublin team did nothing to deserve an All-Star.

i notice the majority of things you meantion were for his club and in the league. im sorry, but its championship that counts. dozens of players have had serious leagues and never got even a nomination.

Doanncha was screwed once they included Michhel Murphy as a half-forward. It's unfortunate, I'd love to see him get one, but I'm sure the All-Ireland medal in his pocket will provde some measure of comfort :)

As much as we all love Donnacha & would love for him to pick up an all star i don't think this was the year for it.The only game he played a full 70 mins in was the day in Limerick & he didn't play ET.

I am a huge fan of his but in fairness young Ryan McHugh would have a far bigger axe to grind with the all star committee.

HJ, you're being OTT on Connolly. He was unreal for ALL the Semi final..that score when he beat 5 men or more and kicked a point in the second half when Dublin were in dire trouble was amazing for one..probably on a par with the Jameso show in Pairc ui Chaiomh as an individual performance.

He was pretty good in the Monaghan game aswell and lets be honest the rest of Dublin's games were largely non-events. He was excellent in the league aswell. I don't count club activity for Allstars myself although who knows what criteria the buffoons selecting it use.

Hand on heart I couldn't say I'm overly put out by Donnacha NOT getting an Allstar. Aidan O'Mahony is far harder done by to b honest. He was literally carried off the field in Limerick when he could do no more. He then shut down the main player of the opposition in the final completely and set up a huge amount of attacks aswell. THAT is Allstar material. Donnacha was poor in Limerick and did ok in the final, no more.

Walsh was never getting an all star this year, far too much competition in the half forwards. Connolly and Flynn are probably the two best half forwards in the game and couldn't be excluded despite what happened in their semi, and Murphy had to be moved to accommodate Donaghy, who saved kerry in the first semi final and had a huge impact thereafter, all in big games. AOM was a bit hard done by alright, had a massive final and didn't do anything wrong in any of the other games. Overall I think the team is fair enough to be honest.

I'm just after hearing that Crokes will be representing Kerry in Munster because of the Draw! Is that true?

Munster championship game v Ballincollig down for the 16th Nov so plenty time for a replay I would think.

Kerry replay is next week so I'd be shocked if this was true.

Decent game today with the conditions - some great scores.

Apparently Donnacha heard that to win an all-star you now need to pull off outrageous skill in club games which was why he pulled out the tasty lob.

Edit : the bit about Crokes going forward.

replay is on next Sunday, venue to be confirmed.

Not 100% sure the lob wasn't a mis-kick. Good effort by both sides in poor conditions both will probably feel they should have won it today.

Lixnaw deserve a mention today ... great result in the Munster intermediate championship.

    Well done!!

Felt literally nauseous listening to that today

Think the Tipp reps have withdrawn from the Munster Championship so the Kerry team will receive a bye in the semis in Munster. Thats what I was told today, but can't confirm it. Stacks will go on if they win next Sunday, Crokes if they dont.

Tipp have withdrawn, game v Ballincollig on the weekend of the 16th in Kerry

Right so if the Tipperary team hadn't withdrawn, Crokes would have gone through, but now the Stacks still have a chance.

There was some confusion after the match. I wasn't at it, but my parents were and someone was telling them the Crokes were through and it was on next weekend.

Its a stupid rule, surely the losers of the county final should go through which would be Austin Stacks if stacks lose next weekend. I hope Stacks get the opportunity as Dr. Crokes have been a failure outside Munster and start great and inevitably end up out of steam after Christmas each year. Wouldn't it be great to see Donaghy lift Sam next September 15.

How is it stupid? What would you do if 2 divisional sides were in the final. Stacks if in Munster/AI series won't do better than Crokes.
