Jack Barry and Barry O Sullivan both playing midfield for UCD in the Sigerson cup final on TG4 now

    Beaten by a point.

Awful panic in the second half from UCD. 4 wides from Mannion. Black card for O'Sullivan late.

Congrats to Glenbeigh/Glencar on winning the All Ireland Junior club final today.

Good performance and perhaps should have won by more, but for some wayward shooting.

Rock were tough and rough, but had some classy scorers up front. Glenbeigh's corner forward got a harsh straight red IMO after the referee deemed his late shoulder to have been an elbow. I felt it was a black card or a yellow.

Rock had 3 guys dismissed on second yellows (one was a yellow and a black). Their Maor Uisce also ran on the field and pushed Darren O'Sullivan and was sent to the stands. But he waited on the field afterwards and congratulated Darren and shook his hand after the game. Nice to see little bits of sportsmanship in the midst of a fractuous game.

Rock were lucky not to have had a straight red after the halftime whistle when their number 12 punched Danny O'Sullivan leaving the field after the two of them exchanged words. The ref deemed it worthy of only a yellow card when they came back onto the field.

Gavin O'Grady and Darren (on one leg) looked really dangerous up front and Bernard Murphy was such a calming influence off the bench and kicked a vital late score.

Pa Kilkenny was poor and gave away an awful lot of ball.

Danny O'Sullivan and Colin McGillicudy were my contenders for Man of the Match. O'Sullivan was a demon around the breaking ball and had a hand in most of Glenbeigh's attacks.

Great to see another Kerry club do well.

How Darran lasted the 60 minutes is beyond me!

Thought Jack Brosnan showed up well for Glenbeigh at wing back also. Great support there today for Glenbeigh, long but sweet trek home tonight.

Donnacha Walsh and Peter Crowley banned for 1 match for the brawl at the end of the Mayo game.

Tom Parsons and Danny Kirby banned for Mayo.

Hopefully this standard will be kept all year, and all players involved in brawls of this nature get a match suspension, and not just Kerry and Mayo players in February when there is nothing on the line.

Edit: This leaves us awful bare in defence for this Sunday's clash. Monaghan would be a great bet, with our lack of defenders.

We have Enright, Young and Shanahan dodgy due to injury.

We have Kilkenny and Fitzgerald away with Celebrations/Club duty.

We have O'Sullivan, Beaglaoich and Foley away with the 21's. Even Andrew Barry or some of the other 21's who would be next in line are unavailable.

We have Griffin, Murphy, Morley and Lyne fit.

    Anyone i'm missing?

IF you can’t make it to the Corn Uí Mhuirí Football Final this weekend then don’t fret because help is at hand.

The match pits great rivals Tralee CBS against St. Brendan’s Killarney on Saturday at 4:30pm in Austin Stack Park Tralee.

It’s sure to draw a big crowd of current and past pupils to the venue, but for those of you who can’t make it, you can watch it live streamed on www.munstergaapps.ie from 4.30pm offering those in abroad or around the country a chance to see how their alma mater will get on.

St Brendan’s will be favourites for the Munster Colleges title, but CBS have been through some epic battles and will be hoping to win their first championship since 2007. In the event of a draw, the replay will be played on Saturday, March 4.

    Was this confirmed tonight?

Appeal tonight. Was very hush hush until now.

Kirby suspension announced yesterday in the Mayo news, with no word on Kerry suspensions, but it was pretty obvious at least one would follow after that.

Read tonight on Hoganstand about the appeal.

Apparently Crowley got off, Walsh suspended.

Yeah, was looking for it all last night but it was on the Gaa Twitter account.

Donnacha Walsh - Striking with the hand Proven. 1 match suspension.

Peter Crowley - Strike with the hand. Not proven. No further disciplinary action.

They mush have some other footage, because having been beside it and having seen the tv footage, there was no striking from any player. Guys were slapping hands off jerseys, which is as close as it got but really no strikes thrown.

Really strange to see Donnacha Walsh named! He's meant to be suspended. Maybe an appeal is going through?

Greaat to see Enright and Young back along with Geaney and JOD up front.

A lot more hopeful than I was this morning.

Teams have to be named to Croke Park by 9am on Wednesday morning, so I'd imagine this was the team provided to Croke Park and there will be asub coming in off the bench.

Only 26 names have to be provided to Croke Park and Kerry normally only name 26 but Kerry named 28 so I would guess the 2 extra were named to cover Donnacha and Peter in a worst case scenario.

Anyone describe O Luing a bit for those of us who don't know him?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,365 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

A bit light, but I haven't seen much of him really.

He was corner back on the Kerry Junior team that won the All Ireland last year right?

Powerful second half performance by The Sem after a competitive first half when The Green gave them a right game of it

Up by two points at half time, they blitzed The Green in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

    Final score

    The Sem 2-20
    The Green 0-11

Very stormy and wet in Killarney today so if you're travelling to the Monaghan match, wrap up well and drive carefully.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,365 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

Furious. Will need to take a few hours to calm down before posting properly.

Some really poor performances and two stupid mistakes leading to two goals. Monaghan used every trick in the book to waste time in the first half. Monaghan bullied our attackers, with both Wylies being brilliant.

That was a game that shouldn't have been lost.

Apparently we haven't won in Fitzgerald Stadium in February in years.

Relegation scrap now. We'll struggle to beat Roscommon. Forget about the Dubs on Tralee.

Listened to it on Radio Kerry and the commentator and Ambrose were very surprised that Darran O Sullivan was brought on for Crowley, as Crowley was having a good game in their eyes.

Was this another example of some very odd substitutions by Fitzmaurice or was it a good move ?

Roscommon are cat by the way, ye should be OK up there, steady the ship again.

It was dreadful stuff, really sloppy. The Donegal game seems ages ago now doesn't it.

We had a fairly experienced team out today as well so there really can't be any excuses. Monaghan wanted it more by the looks of it.

Crowley picked up a leg injury early and struggled through the game. Crowley got on a lot of ball but was left free. He was out on his feet when Darren came on. It was a good call for me

It was not down to Fitzmaurice. The players showed little passion.

Sheehan was on 20 seconds, won a fantastic mark, was held down on the ground by two lads and then struck out and got sent off. So stupid, Fitzmaurice didn't want to look at him after.

And we still fought back and got a chance to level it, but we took it into trouble. Forwards were extremely poor and easily marshaled.

Problem is Fitzmaurice is not picking the best teams available to him

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,552 ✭✭✭Same As

I'm still trying to get my head around how we ended up with 13 behind the ball for large chunks of the first half with a gale force wind to our backs, particularly against a team who are far from potent in attack, less McManus. Very disappointing performance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,953 ✭✭✭Radio5

Kerry did not take advantage of the very strong wind in the first half, too many wides and 2 missed goal chances. In the conditions today, goals were vital and having some kind a decent lead at half time. There was a very heavy hailstone shower during half time, not sure if TG4 coverage showed that.

Monaghan looked sharper and fitter and their handling of the ball in possession was much better. Their 2nd goal was crucial and Kerry, I think didn't score from play in 2nd half.

Sheehan was foolish in the extreme for a man of his experience. I'd love to be able to lip read what Fitzmaurice said to him as he went off....

At 70 minutes Kerry had to game down to a point and 4 minutes of added time to equalise and yet they couldn't do so. All we got were 2 Monaghan wides from McManus which were as good as scores in terms of taking up time and taking the ball out of play. That to me sums up the whole day.

What would you have changed today?

Fitzmaurice is not perfect, but the players didn't deliver today.

Monaghan's sweepers stopped us footpassing in the first half and our scores came from good counter attacks. Defensively we set up really well and restricted Monaghan' scoring chances.

It came down to two individual errors in posession from Morley in the first half and Crowley in the second which Monaghan took their goals clinically.

We missed 2 goal chances in the first half.

Swap that around and we have a 12 point win :P

Our defensive system was perfect until we were caught in posession. Outside of that, our harrying restricted Monaghan to shots from distance which more often than not were unsuccessful. Our tackling was much cleaner and we didn't give up too many scorable frees.

    Our forwards let us down.

Anthony Maher was brought on to rescue a game,Maher last played a game of football in August,How was that going to work?

Darran O Sullivan was brought on today after being crippled above in Croke Park last Sunday on top of a few days celebrating with his club mates,McManus just glided past him in the last minute today. How the hell was this the best option?

Killian Young was free for the whole game today but we needed someone to drive out with the ball,Murphy or Lyne would of been ideal in the role.

Our wing backs were roasted all day and we couldnt keep our shape up top,We can blame the players all you like but he is the man who is training these guys twice a week every week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,365 ✭✭✭✭DDC1990

To be fair Maher was a black card sub and we didn't have much other options.

I do think Fitzmaurice can be slow to make changes on the line, but today you could have made a hundred changes and it wouldnt have made a difference.

We didn't have the desire on the pitch, and we didn't have players to make an impact off the bench.

Perhaps the blame lies between the two. We need to be more tactically astute but the players need to show more desire on the pitch.

Jesus that didn't make for good viewing on the Sunday Game.

Sheehan should be dropped for that. A blatant, dirty act that has no place on the football field. Threw the knee in as well. Then trying to bull**** Eamonn going off denying ot was a proper punch. Embarassing.

Funny that the 4 clips they should of great intense Monaghan play were 4 fouls! Drew Wylie pushing Paul Geaney out over the endline. James shouldered in the back over the sideline. Jonathan Lyne pulled back and Darren pulled back. None were given as fouls.

For the first goal Morley slipped and dropped the ball, then Enright got beaten 1 on 1 by McManus (no shame really), Kealy made a great save but Mark Griffin was caught ball watching on the rebound and Morley who had tracked back was sold a simple dummy before the Monaghan forward scored.

For the second goal Crowley slipped under no pressure, Doogan slipped passed Shanahan and Griffin who were ball watching and got the ball from McManus who beat Shane Enright out in front and slipped the ball to to Doogan to finish.

The key was that both times we were turned over quickly in posession which meant that Killian Young was out of position in the sweeper role, which gave McManus that rare 1 on 1 with Enright and they took both chances clinically. On a dry day you may end up with a different result!

It does show that individually, our defenders are not up to man marking tightly. Come championship I hope it's drilled into players that if we turn over possession like that to foul quickly and give up 1 point instead of 3.
