severe weather warning issued yesterday. Met said yesterday's respite would not last more than a day. Weather last night gave warning of snow showers, some prolonged & very cold conditions.

Based on this, I changed work plans. - Seems to have held up near exactly as they said.

How much more warning is required??????????

they didnt issue a proper warning. i.e via news broadcasts. They just said it might snow lightly. This could cause fierce disruption

Dont rely on Met Eireann anyway. I'd say get out of there

God only knows! Really difficult to advise - could keep snowing or could turn to rain in 10 minutes!

    Still bucketing down here anyway.

I'm more curious about the rain/sleet and snow for Sunday.

On the 7:55am weather broadcast on Radio 1 they said snow for Leinster and Ulster.

So what do the weather forecasters here think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,456 ✭✭✭✭Mr Benevolent

It may be a temporary dusting, but the knock-on road effects will be much, much worse. It's panic, fair enough, but it's justified considering everyone's experiences on the road on Tuesday.

    I'd rely on Met Eireann:
Staying very cold today and tonight. Further sleet and snow showers today over much of Leinster and parts of east Munster.

btw more than showers unless a shower lasts for 6 hours plus......

Still coming down as snow in D16

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,498 ✭✭✭Mothman

I think that at this stage conditions are unlikely to improve, I'd say slushy mess at best.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,433 ✭✭✭✭Supercell

I think any snow lying on roads near the coast is likely to be temporary and will quickly melt once the precipitation dies away.
Inland in places (maybe 10km+ inland) like Naas etc where there apparently was some decent snow this morning it may be slushy for a while and I'd rather drive in those conditions in daylight, slushy roads and darkness are an accidant waiting to happen.

1.3°C here and snizzle! With no coverage on cleared surfaces, even cars.
