What differences would there be in taking home a puppy from a breeder at 4months as opposed to the usual 2months? Would extra time with mother help or hinder puppy moving to new home? If puppy(labrador) hasnt been trained yet how easy to train is a four month old versus 2 month old? Any general thoughts?

It would depend to a large degree on what the breeder has done with the pup.

Was just tucked away with its mother in a shed somewhere or did the breeder start to socialize and (house)train it ?

4 month isn't too late to start house training, but it would be a bit late to start socialisation.
If all the pup knows is its mother and a dark shed, you might experience some trouble getting it used to normal family life and household activities and it would probably take a bit longer and more effort in doing so.

I agree with pesant - but would also like to ad that if the pup has been socialiased properly as well as being kept with its mother and litter it can have a huge benefit.

My pup goes a bit mad with people, cliimbing all over them, yapping getting excited, but with other dogs he is so good with them. The way he aproaches them, deals with dogs who don't want to be near him etc. I was worried about his socialisation because he was sick when younger and couldn't be brought out. Walking has been difficult with him but we never had a problem with another dog, he seems to know what to do every time. I think it's because he was with his litter until he was 3 months old.

The only draw back i saw with him being with his litter mates for a bit longer is that he and his litter mates would be rough when playing and he used to play bite us a lot harder than was acceptable when they first left.
