I know someone that named their child Crystal, from the first time I heard it I just thought stripper and now she's 15 she wants to be a dancer/singer.

Also my name was mentioned twice, I'm happy with my name but in school when we were leaving, they made a booklet and at the end everybodies names were listed. They must have run spell check through the whole thing because my name was 'corrected' from Orla to Oral. It was funny but I would have prefered if they paid more attention.

I don't like the names that people think are unique but are actually common as muck. Also when two Irish people have a child and give it a 'black' name. Or when people use names that I would give a pet, I had a cat called Tammy someone else had a dog called the same, I just can't see that as a persons name.

I don't mind Irish names(we're Irish why shouldn't we name our children Irish names) but their are ones that I give me the image of a middle/upper class idiot that probably go's to/went to college in UCD studing arts, or as they like to say orts.

My father and granny changed their names (probably a good idea too)
Father was called Edward(either that or Edmund don't remember which) to Eamonn.
My granny changed hers from Agnus to Una. She was called Dolly as well. I was in her house where she was writing a letter signing off Dolly, signing a form writing Una and sorting something out over the phone saying her name was Agnus.

Sean spelled Shaun bugs me for no reason!

I hate my own name, Bernard. Both my grandfathers were Bernard and I was the first born so I was branded before I was ever even thought of!

Shanice, Dylan, Courtney, Kylie, Summer wtf?, Nathan, Jazmine, Zara, Britney;) and many more!!!!

Sure names vary from person to person, As long as it isn't something old and Catholic like Agnes or Assumpta or something you'll be OK.

I once knew a girl called Attracta but when she introduced herself to me I thought she said "I'm a tractor" and had no idea what she was talking about.

Cassiopeia is the worst name I've ever heard.*

(Besides Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabadoo, obviously.)

Whats wrong with the name Eoin except for the english twits who call me Ian

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭xanthor

    Jenny, Jen, or Jennifer.

There are too many of them in the world. The full name is too long, and the abreviations sounds like something you'd call a 5 year old.

No offence meant to any Jennys, Jens of Jennfiers out there.

My two kids are Darragh and Hollie, what do people make of these names? im interested in finding out

Darragh is nice, although Dara is easier to spell (and the modern Irish version as far as I know). I wouldn't be mad about Hollie but at least you are showing a bit of creativity and that's good in my book.
