It's a long way across the country and not worth the time and cost. I'll have to swallow the loss and keep looking for an alternative.

    Hi Binka,

It might be worth trying to write to the registered postal address of the National Broadband company, which is different from the place of business, this may be one of the directors, 72 Georgian Village, Castleknock, Dublin 15.

Also may be worth trying the address registered to Mr John O Brien, on his new website domain name, he might be able to help as a former partner in NBB, Domain name: ABBTELECOM.COM

    Registrant Contact:
    Cross Country Broadband
    John O'Brien ()

    Fax:
    Riverside, Clonmore
    Edenderry
    Co. Offaly.
As seen earlier in this thread he can be contacted at the numbers on ABB telecoms website. Hope this helps, dont give up hope yet.

    A wee bit more...

ABB Telecom and Abbey Telecom don't seem to be listed as either company names nor registered business names with CRO.

However, abbtelecom.com is registered to Cross Country Broadband / John O'Brien

...John O'Brien is a registered director of Cross Country Broadband Ltd (CRO 405367)

...which would be the same John O'Brien to whom crosscountrybroadband.com is registered. They used to provide a combined one-way satellite download & dial-up upload service.

John O'Brien was previously a director of National Broadband Limited and National Broadband Services Limited, resigning in Oct'07.

John Keating was previously a director of Cross Country Broadband Limited, resigning in Jan'08.

So they have a history of cross directorships but appear to have separated over a year ago.

Thats a very damming coincidence EZduzzit, now there are "possibly" three previous directors/employees of NBB which may be involved in ABB. I am surprised ABB do not come on to refute untruths if any in all of this. As stated in this thread earlier, they are aware of this thread. I was doing some searches for other references to NBB on boards and see a former poster Mickyfinn is a big NBB PR specialist possibly he might return to explain the demise????

Someone should drop a dime on them to the companies office. The liquidator will be interested to know if they are doing a phoenix.

    €385,620.77 .. that's some figure for a sh!tty little outfit like NBB

I doubt they have assets to meet that.

I went to their office in Clane last year, a simple shared office, nothing fancy and very unconvincing as a business, in fact, when I saw the office, I almost walked away....

I am surprised they racked up such big debts

Camperman, I'd say from the thread above thats just the legal fees to take on the government, see other posts by a poster named Clohamon, who details a lot about this NBS law suit.

I'd say the debt will be far more than that, if they owe staff wages, and Voip/broadband suppliers, other equipment vendors, possibly warehousing etc etc etc

not good at all for customers waiting on deposits back...

They won't see a red cent of their money. The Taxman and the liquidator will take the first lot of money and then the creditors in order of priority. The end user will be right at the bottom.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do next?
I have Broadband with this crowd, and don't want to give these people any more money, but am sort of stuck. I cannot get eircom to give me a straight answer about BB availability, and would have to reconnect to them at E121 to find out for definite. Other companies like digiweb cannot use the equipment that I have, so I would have to lash out again for another lot of equipment. (around E600) The easy option is to again go with the new company, (at least I dont have to change equipment etc.) but they sound like such a load of shysters, that I cannot bear to give them any more cash.

Seriously can you not get a mobile midband solution from o2 or Vodafone? Do you get mobile reception where you are?

Thanks Bond007 - I did have a trial of O2 mobile, and although it wasnt bad - it wasn't great either. It's Ok for surfing around, the pages load reasonably quick, but not great for downloading of articles - PDF's etc. The 3G network doesn't extend as far as the sticks here, and I am on the EDGE (in all manners of speaking!!)

The sat business in ireland has been a sad collection of the likes of aramiska , mediasat ildana e3 and nbb and all these snakeoil operators bigged up by the like of eamon ryan .

eircom were doing free connections ( a new line for €0 OR a reconnect for €0 ) until last friday . They will probably do it again so keep an eye on this current specials list

    http://www.eircom.ie/About/Activities/internet_special_offer.pdf

Order a bundle off their website including connection so it is obvious you ordered a line and broadband together. If the line will not do broadband they cannot charge you for it ....but be prepared to argue .

If you simply order a line on its own they can say you did not order a line for broadband and can charge you .

I used to only get EDGE and it was good enough for my needs. I could get 256 kb/s constantly with no problems.

Look at the Astra2Connect web site and ring one of the UK resellers for your system. Someone on the thread signed up already.

ABB isn't really a new company. They don't provide the service, they are not an ISP. Only one of many AGENTS for Astra.
SES Astra signs agreement for distribution of Astra2Connect in the UK
    December 10th, 2008 - 17:30 UTC by Andy Sennitt

SES Astra announced today that it has signed a reseller agreement with the satellite equipment distributor Eurosat for the marketing and sales of its satellite based interactive broadband service Astra2Connect. Eurosat will market the service under its brand name BeyonDSL in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Eurosat, a developer and supplier of satellite TV and consumer electronics based in the United Kingdom, is targeting thousands of British households that are not able to access terrestrial DSL or cable networks and will offer download rates of up to 2 Mbps.

Ring/contact www.beyondsl.net They are main UK/NI agent, if you really can't afford equipment change.

    However there are better services.

Hi echidna - I am in the same boat. I have tested all other options and this is the only version of broadband I can get. My dd form has been sent in to ABB as I can't afford any downtime. If there are any problems I'll post them here anyway.

earlier in this thread, maybe a couple of pages back Watty made some suggestions, also that crowd www.mav.ie offer the A2C product you have with NBB, maybe you could transfer this to them.

Exactly rather than staying with the same mob who may go bust again.

mav and abb are the same, they are agents of a UK reseller not the Irish reseller. If you wanna recycle the A2C gear go with a German or UK A2C agent .

    All
    Update from the creditors meeting:
Basically, there's nothing left for ANYONE. It's all over now, apparently a supplier and ex contractor gave Mr Keating a hard time but it made no difference. A guy by the name of Damien Young has been appointed as liquidator - here's he "funny" bit, a member of the crowd questioned the validity of this guy as liquidator because of his relationship with the aforementioned Mr Keating, one of his mates...

I know there's nothing funny in the whole scheme of things - the end result is that no one will get any monies back - if you are a customer, cancel your DD IMMEDIATELY
A member of the crowd mentioned this thread and said that a post from a customer said his DD had been taken out recently - the reply was a basic shrug and denial of knowledge - then another member of the crowd, a customer supported these claims and was then told that this had been brought to the attention of "Sentenial" the dd company...

    Hope this helps again

    Hi Guys

I am the proprietor of Munster AV. I have been watching this forum and would just like to tell you where we are regarding astra2connect broadband. I would like to start by saying I am not pimping and we are NOT connected with NBB or ABB or any other broadband company. We work directly with astra and beyondsl. Basically you purchase the equipment from us, we install it and you pay your monthly payments direct to astra via credit card payment. The only time you deal with us afterwards is if you have issues with your equipment. I hope this helps and that those of you who are out of pocket get some kind of reimbursment.

    Thanks

You're welcome Brent! And we all know it wasn't really your fault ;)

Hilary, good of you to clarify the situation for the frustrated and annoyed on this thread with regard to MAV - maybe it will help some of the forumers..

I was half expecting Mr O'Brien from ABB to come on any time soon and distance himself and ABB from any of the actions of NBB...

Yes Boggerboy - just what I was thinking -;) .....anytime now......

Thanks Hilz - shame about the equipment. I won't be laying out for another set of equipment - but if you guys and a2c can come up with some deal for all nbb clients then perhaps....?

    Echidna
If mav are reselling the astra product, should you not be able to use the same equipment? (excuse my tech ignorance if i'm wrong!!)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7 hilz1

We are trying to work out something at the moment for those customers who currently have equipment. I have approached A2C regarding the situation and if I get the go ahead I will post the info here. In the meantime if people want to get in touch with me directly they can and I can keep them on file. I don't want to say too much here as I don't want to give anyone the opportunity to accuse me of advertising or "pimping". I am only posting to keep people informed and answer any queries.

    Thanks

The Sponge is usually worth listening to. However have you proof that mav.ie is nbb/ccb/abb?

TBH, while mav.ie seems like a small operation and isn't an ISP, I can't see the CCB/NBB/ABB connection?

Munster Audio Video (mav.ie) is just a TV shop in Newmarket Co. Cork. Probably a major UK or German agent would be better idea till we know more.

    Uses same user name here
