Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I heard about that this morning on twitter. Was it the tree that caused it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Heard it on the news, I think the tree got caught up in it, and they had to cut the roof off as a result.

    Mad.

    Good to see pics!

No doubt the trade union explanation will be that they need more training, like how do you expect a bus driver to be able to predict what a tree will do next?

I'd think twice before sitting in the upper front left seats in future..

I was there this morning, got loads of pics of it, pretty exciting stuff, I will put them up later.

The bus driver clicppied this branch and the roof collapsed, the fire brigade took the roof off the rest of the way and put it on the ground, apparently there was one man upstairs but he is ok, the driver is in the matter aparently as well. There were loads of photographers there as well, so I bet there will be loads of pics around soon, id check the herald if I were you. There has been news reporters in and out all day asking questions, so I would say there will be a big story about it soon.

    Tlak to yous later

Buses "clip" branches all the time but the roof doesn't fall off! There must be more to this story:confused:

He didn't clip he "clicppied" maybe that some slang for drove into?

You have to remeber that you don't know the size of the branch and i'm sure the top part of buses isn't the most strongest, either way would be interesting to see what they say on the news...

It is great that nobody was hurt. Why was there an empty bus on the city centre streets during rush hour though:eek:

It was heading out of town, also it's a specialist bus that only goes to killester. Plenty of other buses go the same route and then further so very few people would be going there at that hour.

You can see the branch that it hit there above . . . . .

Interesting thing to come across, I must say.

All the pics are unedited so don't mind the quality.

I know, I was delighted that I did have it when I came across it and I had it in my bag, you never know what you could find on your travels.

    dramatic shots!!!

i suppose the poor tree will suffer the indignity of getting the offending branches cut off!!

unfortunatly it's not a real cycle lane thanks to the PD's

Motorists are perfectly entitled to drive in it unless there is a bike there already.
Exactly the same as rule if there wasn't a bike lane.

    Oi leaf it out :pac:

Dublin Bus have sent in three inspectors of their own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

What i do not understand is that its a bus lane, and the tree has been there for a very long time. How has this not happened before?

Look at mcgowaner's 4th pic where they are lifting the roof on to the red truck with a crane.

The tree is right by the kerb and the bowl where the markings are do not look to be as high as a double decker so how did it not happen before? Unless the bus driver was too close to the kerb?

Maybe this is a sneaky way for Dublin bus to convert old buses to open tops for the coming summer season :D

Some changes were made to that QBC over the last while, although I don't know if any changes were made at that point.
