Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bartering in Thailand

Apart from the obvious markets and street sellers when is it ok to barter down the price in Thailand. I have found prices in restaurants and pubs for instance to be high on the Islands like Koh Samui & Koh Phangan ie 200 bh for a burger for instance. Leaving aside the 30-60 bh for street food( rice & noodles) I have had people say they barter down everywhere and for everything. Is this the norm?

I've never seen anyone barter in a restraunt or a pub. I wouldn't even bother trying myself.

It's worth giving it a try in other situations (accomodation/transport/day trips) as it's fairly easy to gauge from the initial reaction as to whether you'll have any luck or not.

    bartering, lol :)

But no, not in restaurants. The islands are more expensive for everything anyway.

    lol

didn't even realise the OP had said bartering

re: the cost of food on the islands

western food is always going to be much more expensive than local food (not just street stalls)
