Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I hear that Today Fm have removed the premium text number from the The last word and reverted to a normal rate text number. Will others follow suit. Surely Newstalk will have to revert to a standard rate text number?

The show did use 53102, IIRC.

    53102 was ALWAYS standard rate.

Yeah... It was kind of a mantra - "53102 - Standard network rates apply"

yes it was the standard rate charge using 53102, however if you text the station from one of the networks websites 085/086/087 you can text for free , this wasnt possible using the 53102 number, also if like me you have free text messages on your network provider you also get to text for free, again with 53102 this wasnt the case.!!

Isn't 53102 only for the competition on TLW. But 083 4100102 is for normal texting, comments etc for TLW and other programmes

At least they never went down the premium text route like Newstalk. Hearing the presenters touting for texts is woeful. Especially when it comes down to them prattling on, then as an aside asking stupid questions like "Do you think I ate too much chicken last night. Text 53***" It's like tourettes

Nope. 53102 is (or was) for ANY contact with TLW......0834100102 is for all other programmes.

And for the record "53***" numbers are premium rate text numbers. 30 cent per text.

Their new intro music sounds good though...does anyone know what it is?

But in the case of The Last Word, they absorb the extra cost themselves, and only charge you the standard rate.

They have started using the 083 4100102 number for the competition this week, but are still using 53102 for comments.

Yup. Hence the "price of a standard text" mantra delivered by Matt Cooper every time the short text number was mentioned.

Just listening now, and it seems that 53102 is gone. It's the other number for everything now.

the 53102 number is gone.. its 0834100102 for all texts now, competition or otherwise.

Fair play to them...back to texting for free for the competition

Wonder if Newstalk will follow suit

are all 53x numbers that rate, or can the operator set the rate? I'm not sure that the 53 number was ever used for the competition, but I'm 99% sure that both comments and competition lines have always been standard rate - I remember Matt driving the point home again and again when newstalk introduced the premium rate, and off-and-on ever since.
