    Hey 'dere,

I'm a big fan of "the Exploited/GBH" etc.

Can anyone recomend some similar hardcore punk type bands. I'm not too mad on mainstream punk to be honest - just the heavier stuff. :)

    Thanks,

    B.

All good bands to be fair. Thanks.

I was more referring to Hard Core punk, if you get my meaning (Exploited, GBH, etc.). As opposed to American Hardcore (which is awesome as well).

    Cheers,

    B.

    The Freebooters - www.myspace.com/irishfreebooters

    Excuses - www.myspace.com/excusesireland

    Ructions - www.myspace.com/ructionsoi

    Hey AR,

I was listening to the Oi Scouts on youtube - feckin' awesome! Kinda remind me of "A Global Threat".

Any idea where I could buy some of their albums from, I can't find it on Amazon. :(

    Thanks!

    B.

The Oi! Scouts are ****ing brilliant, they're easily my favourite band. It's pretty hard to find anything by them or anything about them. But as far as I know they only ever released one album "Boots For The Beatdown" which is amaizing.

After some looking I found a download for ya

I would describe Aus Rotten as not Pure Punk Chaos that the OP described he liked.
Same with Poison Idea....actually lets not go down this road..
    hehe :p

I know what your saying; they're not a patch on bands like, say, Special Duties, Chaotic Dischord or Capo Regime:D.

Minor Threat and Bad Brains are my favorite.

Also if you want, you can check out the soundtrack to "American Hardcore: A history of american punk rock".
It'll give you a good start in the way of Hardcore Punk. Has pretty much all of the popular hardcore punk songs from all the popular hardcore bands in it... Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Circle Jerks the whole lot...

  • Registered Users Posts: 468 ✭✭godspal

I have seen Minor Threat mentioned here twice but no Fugazi!!! Get 13 Songs its one of the best punk albums out there.

I have 13 songs, but it's not really hardcore punk though...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

Not really that good either IMO, they never really compared to Minor Threat for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,171 ✭✭✭af_thefragile

I like a few songs from Fugazi but they lack the rawness and aggressiveness of Minor Threat. They're not hardcore either. They're post hardcore i think...

If you want something a bit more new school than all the aforementioned classics, any of the artists signed to bridge 9 records are a safe bet, and they gig here alot too if yer into the whole live music buzz...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭busttropical

Well apparently theres different opinions around what hardcore punk is but some of the new stuff that id consider hardcore (less metal more speed) would be

Strike Anywhere, No Trigger, None More Black, Flatliners(mostly first album), The Bronx (maybe a little more rock), Pour Habit.... Pour habit are the most hilariously good live band ive ever seen!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,095 ✭✭✭OLP

Yeah Hardcore basically has different meanings depending on the era

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭darealtulip

Glad to see everyone is still listening to the classics!! I have most of the above named on vinyl.

Check out “One by One” from Glasgow around early ‘90’s, “Huasipungo” and “RDP” for Latin hardcore. Early “Coitus”, “Extreme Noise Terror” , “Discharge” and a lot of the other DIS-s. Wouldn’t go with a lot of the US bands but “The Misfits” are classic.
Check out who published with clay records back in the day.
There were some great French HC bands too, can’t remember who they were, but remember one do a fantastic version of a Madonna song. The Berurier Noir had some great ****, and their performances were excellent. Gave all their money to those who refused to be conscripted and went to prison instead.
