Some threads just need to die.. then again, some threads should just be moved to AH and left run to their natural ending :)

I lock a fair few on AH. Often to save the OP from a slagging. Sometimes to save the users from a bad thread. However I would encourage you to PM a mod or report the post if you want a thread re-opened. We do try our best to help people out.
Moved to feedback so we can get a bit more opinion from users on this.

Please cite examples of thread you think should have been left open.

    Huh.

I didnt think "threads that are locked daily by boards mods that shouldnt be locked" was a quantifiable amount.

    /consults physics text-book

Oh, look at that!. It's a scalar. Hurrah.

    I think it's 7 threads a day.

5 on weekends, and three on a bank holiday.

Not sure if they get paid overtime for the BH though.

Down to five daily now, there's a recession on apparently.

The likes of Ruu and Gordon dicked it up for everybody with their ostentacious excess, now the rest of us have to live with the consequences

I heard they had to evict banlist.php due to lack of funds, and users are now expected to supply their own bits for posting (which isn't as painful as it sounds).

In my opinion Boards mods should never be locked while they're modding -it's irresponsible.

    Fap forum?

    Wtf?

    Bloody internetz.

    It's all Roundymooney's fault anyways.

    Fighting Irish

Have you come to Feedback to complain about a particular thread that you think shouldn't have been closed?
If so, can you provide us with a link?

Otherwise, this thread is just going to go nowhere.

    Thanks

A user with a Join Date of Nov 2002 getting all this noise ?
Poor guy. The answer I'd offer is : too many. I think generally some threads are locked so as to save the Mod the extra hassle of moderating if there's posts reported or it's a hot/contentious issue.

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 42,362 Mod ✭✭✭✭Beruthiel

Again, it is difficult to give any kind of valid feedback if you do not supply links to the threads you are talking about.

I havn't collated all the threads I've seen closed and that I wished had not have been closed. I appreciate that you need links and contexts and that we should debate or comment on closed threads as they're being closed but as a general question that the OP asked my answer is still that too many threads get closed across the site (excluding PI, Soccer and AH)

Will we be setting this ficticious number off against the number of threads not closed by mods which should have been?

    DeV.

We might get some valuable data if we divide the result by the circumferance of a moose.

It's the modding that made us all turn to drink in the first place
