if you drop your landline any other broadband won't be as reliable.....i.e forget about online gaming...

Can you be a bit more specific on location.....is mobile broadband any use?

Some wireless products are not very good, others are every bit as good as DSL or cable, Digiweb Metro for example. Mobile products are generally not broadband at all.

Other than Permanet, there's fuk all else available in that area.

What was your service with Eircom like down here. Reason i am asking is because i'm waiting for mine to be set up. Give Aputs a shout. Friend of mine has it and it is very good.

Well they told me i could get it. You need to have a line of sight to the windmills on the hill.

Most wireless systems will require Line of Sight to the basestation, they connect you to.

You should try Permanet, good service once it is working and excellent for gaming. I regularly play PS3 and Xbox online without any issues. If you want a similar package to Eircom I dont think that you will save any money. Permanet's prices are more expensive than Eircom even including line rental except the very basic package (.5mbps). I will saythis, Permanets ping times are far lower than Eircoms, I regularly get about 30-40ms RTT.
I get the BIZ3Mbps service. You will need LOS but there is a map on their site showing where they provide service.

I don't know who you spoke to on the phone, but if you have line of site to any of the 4 windmills, you can get broadband for sure.

PM Me and I will give you more details.
