Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi
I want to get Windows Media Centre on my Lap top so I can play media thorugh my x-box.
Is there anywhere this can be downloaded from? (I will pay of course)
I notice there are a lot of cheaper generic Media Center versions, will this do the same job for me?
    Thanks
    Jack

Windows Media Center is part of certain versions of XP and Vista, not a separate application you can buy/download.

There are indeed free alternatives, such as TVersity. Google that.

    Probably better.

You only need one specific program for X-Box.

Try free MS download of Windows Media Encoder 9 which includes a media server. It might work with x-box.

Most of Media Centre is a packaging up of poor media clients and remote control to watch TV on PC, rather than specifically intended for X-Box. I'd suggest you conctrate on googling what free "server" applications for X-Box exist for Windows, OS X and Linux. Media Centre is too broad a term and some 3rd party Media Centres or Media Centre applications won't support X-Box. Many are for watching Satellite TV on PC as the MS support in Media Centre is poor for this.

Vista and Win7 have MS Media Centre built in. The Media Centre edition of XP is not a plug-in or upgrade but a different version of XP that has to be bought and installed. But none of them have anything not done better by individual free 3rd party applications. You just have to find out which applications you need.

+1 for TVersity. Works brilliantly. You'll need the free Optional Media Update from Live Marketplace to watch DivX movies etc.

Also the zune software can be used to stream media etc. to your x-box, but it has got limited support on file types.

Kinda makes Media Centre pointless unless your going to use it as part of a htpc.
