Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Poll to follow.

Given the way things have gone how much of a pay cut would you be willing to take to keep your job in the current economic climate?

If the choice was to work at a much reduced rate or not work at all would you stick to your principals?

What is the absolute most of a wages hit would you take?

Have you taken a reduction recently and if so how much?

None, I'm being underpaid compared to the current market and with the necessary experience provided and a good market for jobs in my area I would hop ship in a second if I wasn't going to get the bonus and pay rise this year I expect.

Cut the money to the lazy who stay on the dole for ages, not to the workers.

But how will they pay for their fags, booze and heartburn-inducing white bread toast?

If I see another recession/current climate thread in AH, the only cut I'll be making is to my wrists.

Considering that my company just released excellent figures, and the fact that the forecasts (licence bookings etc.) for the next year look great, anything else then a decent payrise would be an insult to the workforce. But said that, usually they are quite generous (8% last year).

We already shed 20% of the worldwide workforce in the last 3 years to boost profits and shareprices, and have become more productive as a company. AFAIK remember we have increased turnover and sales for 18 consecutive quarters now.

I'm fed up with the 'current economic climate' ****. I just can't hear it anymore. The current economic climate can **** off. I'm going to sit this one out.

Considering I'm on fairly crap pay as it is..I'd only be prepared to take a 10% cut.

(and I mean CRAP, not crap in most peoples cases which is below 700 a week )

Where is the "smallest cut I could possibly get away with" option.

Not a cent. My company is doing quite well. We reported an increase in profits of 17% for the year last month and are expanding into new countries. However, they still used the "current economic climate" as an excuse to cancel our Xmas party. I know that's nothing compared to what some people are going through but the fact they lied about it makes me think they will try something on regarding a pay cut.

Would love to know what area the private companies mentioned above are making money in?
The industry I'm in is facing its biggest ever downturn with even the biggest player set to announce its first loss in 20yrs.
I'm on pay freeze since June last year and facing possible 20% pay-cut.

In my case it's low cost retail - the kind of place people flock to in time of recession and does well anyway. Won't name the company but we're high profile

EDIT Who are the two people willing to take a 60% pay cut?

    Absolutely no way in hell.
If a paycut was offered a P45 would be requested TBH. **** that. I work too hard for too long to take a goshdarn paycut. I'm already going cheap.

Back in the dot com bust I had an increasing pay cut, 5%, 10% then 20% in order to keep my job. One of the executive managers took a 100% pay cut, had to file personal bankruptcy and got divorced as well. We tried to keep the company afloat but in the end it faded away and I eventually left.

And by the way, just because you think the company might be doing well, you can still be blindsided. At this particular company I was shocked to find out we were having layoffs. I was working on multiple projects working long hours but I was so busy I didn't recognise that half the company was idle. Next thing I know we had multiple rounds of layoffs, my friends and co-workers let go without a penny. I am not as naive anymore.

I is a student but am willing to give up 25% of my pot noodle. I'm doing my bit for the recession.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,995 ✭✭✭Sofiztikated

Already working 2 days a month unpaid. Roughtly a 7% paycut, i think if my maths are right. Still ghey as I work hard for my moneys, and never got paid/days leiu for my overtime, which is already running at about 7.5/10 hrs a week.

But needs must, as we have to reduce costs somewhere, and already have staff on as minimum as possible.

25% pay cut. Was on three days last year, now 5. No overtime or benefits. Not a 9 to 5 job either. You leave when the job is finished and that's it. (IT Sector) Not much above minimum now. Job still not certain.

Seriously thinking of just leaving places at 5.30. Sorry Sir/Madam, not paid have you stand right behind me as I'm trying to service your kit and tell me that your 6yr old nephew knows as much as I do. Get him to do the f**king job then!

Expecting a 10% cut in the next week or two...we have been warned its coming. Worst thing is our company is very healthy - top end of 2008 targets so I can't help thinking they are taking advantage....

Wouldn't take any further pay cut...after 10% I would prefer to work a shorter week and save on the petrol! Anyway I've taken on further roles and responsibilities this year with no financial reward...feck that!

All this makes me very sad :( We used to have happier things to talk about :(

its this sort of attitude that causes companies to lay off people in the first place. your employer owes you nothing, they dont have to give you a pay rise or a bonus.

and where would you go to? the "current market" is long gone. no matter what job you have, its under threat and it can be done for bout 40% elsewhere. i hope to get a bonus this year but im grateful for a good job that i have and will gladly sit here for the next 12-18 months and keep my mouth shut, as long as the salary comes in at the end of the month.

I can see a lot of scrupulous company owners using this credit crunch as an excuse even if their margins are very healthy. Pure greed.

They don't have to give me a pay rise or a bonus if they don't want to keep me.

There are over 56 jobs currently being advertised in Dublin for my role with the minimum pay being 4k over what I currently earn. Bonus's like a company car, parking and paid for health insurance all of which I currently don't have. The only reason I have stayed is because I like the company and they pay for further training. I also get plenty of time in work to study what I want.

I don't care what situation you are in, or what others are in. I'm not in it. I've never had a problem getting a job, can talk my way into anything and pick it up so damm fast it would make your head spin. So nobody is going to sell me this recession crap or try drop my pay.
