    Greeting folks.

I watched a documentary last night about Jimi Hendrix on Sky Arts and near the end of the film, there a bit of music that really grabbed my attention. I was a lovely piece of blissed-out psychedlic music which apparently has something to do with the Rainbow Bridge concert near a volcano in Hawaii in 1970. The thing is, it sounded way too laid-back to be Hendrix.

So could anyone tell me please what this might be? I'd be very grateful if someone could enlighten me as I'd love to get my hands on a copy of it.

    Regards,
    Noel.

I've moved this from Experimental Music purely because I think you might be more likely to get an opinion from an informed Hendrix fan here, and because most of Hendrix's stuff wouldn't be considered that experimental :)

Hendrix made a lot of laid back music too, I wouldn't be surprised if it was his piece.

Is there any way you could look up the music credits from the documentary? Is this it? http://www.skyarts.co.uk/music/article/jimi-hendrix-the-man-they-made-god

    Hi Noel,
I have a copy of the Rainbow Bridge DVD which features an open-air concert on top of the Haleakala volcano.
The track listing is as follows:
    - Hey Baby (The Land of the New Rising Sun)
    - Foxy Lady
    - Hear My Train A Comin'/ Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)
    - Purple Haze/ Hear My Train A Comin' (Reprise)
    - Instrumental
I'm guessing the last track - Instrumental - may be what you're referring to.

That's the one. I looked up the credits and it mentions Adrian Wagner but I couldn't find anything about the track names.

The full video is at http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/music_rock/watch/v160632968ccpa8hM The piece I'm talking about appears
around the 47 min Mark where they're talking about the Haleakala gig.

and I've recorded the sound-clip and made it available at http://www.eliteshopfit.ie/hendrix.mp3

Thanks Hermy, could you do me a favour and listen to the the MP3 above and tell me if that's the same as the instrumental track you listed?

I'd love to hear the full track. Sounds very trippy. I'm into Steve Hillage/Gong etc (without the drugs) :)

    Thanks,
    Noel.

'fraid not but thanks anyway. Looks like the piece I'm after isn't Hendrix.

Yeah, I really like the sound of that track although I don't know what it is. I don't think it's the same as what I mentioned.
I'll get in touch with a friend of mine who's a big Hendrix fan - he should be able to figure it out.

Very spacey/trippy isn't it? :) Thanks for your help Hermy.

Tis indeed trippy and could be Hendrix - he was drifting into other stuff just before he died.

Aaaah! This very same question has been bugging me for about 14 years.

Did you ever find the answer Kelly 1?

This is a clip from the documentary of the piece I have been trying to identify for so long.

Bummer , Yer, It's really a cool sound, Im almost certain it's not Hendrix though, the guitarist has a completely different technique and tone. I have tried the music finder apps on iphone but had no luck!

    anyone have any other ideas?
