New Hardrive (Ps3)

    Ok so i bought a newhardrive for my ps3
    I watched a few tutorials on how to change it and they seemed simple enough
    so i went and bought one
    and with my luck it tells me that i need an update for it should that happen because on the videos it just asks u to format it

    You need to download the PS3 FW update from PS website and put it on a USB key in folder structure PS3/UPDATE.

    Don't you just install the new drive and when yea power on the system again it asks for you to format the new drive - simple as

    It depends on the HDD you try to install. Most of them are just as above but some are like the OP where it asks for PS3 FW on USB aswell as formatting.

    is there a way to transfer "copy protected" saves from my old HDD?

    You can only transfer copy protected saves by doing a complete system backup which makes a clone of your PS3 HDD.
