I only seem to be getting the reported post emails a few hours after I should (about 5 hours or so). I've tested and it's doesn't seem to be gmail acting up on me as I am getting other emails just fine.

Dr Bollocko seems to be having the same or a similar problem.

Same here, it's been slow all day. I thought it was just me.
For instance, I just got Des's post email now and it was posted at 6PM

Yeah the last one I got was at 17:47. There have been a few posts reported since then though.

yup me too, it's not gmail because I've sent myself stuff from another account.

Sorry about the feedback thread, wanted to be sure it was a site issue before posting here.

edit: for me it's all email notifications, my little backwater forum doesn't get reported posts.... or even, erm, posts...:o

My e-mail notifications are coming in fine, it takes a little under a minute on average, judging by the headers.

Have a look at the Received headers on the e-mails that were slow, it should give you a clue as to where the slowdown is.

Here's what mine look like. Read from the bottom to the top, see the time differences. Where there's a big time difference, that's where the problem is. If there are no big time differences, then it's getting stuck before it leaves vBulletin.

    Here's what I'm getting:
    Received: from smtp.boards.ie (smtp.boards.ie [89.234.66.109])
             by mx.google.com with ESMTP
             id m38si11199139ugd.10.2009.02.11.14.25.03;

             Wed, 11 Feb 2009 17:45:34 +0000 (GMT)

That seems to be where things are going wrong for me. Not too sure but it still looks like a boards issue for me.

After a bit of testing here. It seems to be limited to gmail.

Well, I heard that GMail was having issues earlier. If it was telling smtp.boards.ie to "try again later" you'd see stuff like you were.

When he said that would match up as to when the last email I got was. That looks to be it.

Im having the same problem with gmail. For example i just got a notification of a new PM that was sent yesterday evening at 6:30.

Normally in the early afternoon i could have 25-30 notifications but not a single one today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,443 ✭✭✭Red Sleeping Beauty

I'm assuming this will affect reported Adverts(muffy;)) ?

I just got an email linking to OVerheal's post

I have noticed a delay in receiving notification emails from boards. Not as much as others but I'll keep an eye on it. I'm using Gmail also...

I might switch over to my website email address to see if thats ok.

    Same problem, also with gmail.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,433 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr Magnolia

and again. Not getting some PM & Reported post notifications. Gmail also, not in trash or spam folders.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

It's Gmail alright, and Gmail alone. There's a delay of about 8 hours between the sending and the receiving. If there was some problem with DNS, that may be a suspect.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,584 CMod ✭✭✭✭Steve

Everything is coming through with about a 16 hour delay now.
    You'll get them all tomorrow.

  • Subscribers Posts: 9,716 ✭✭✭CuLT

We're losing some mails somewhere according to the mail graphs, will get looked at as soon as possible, ta.

Of course, any continued speculation is also helpful :)

Yeah, I just spotted a reported post in the forum, but I never got emailed about it. I also never got my happy birthday email today :(. It's a gmail account. I got the happy birthday emails from all the other boards sites, but they went to a hotmail account.

Don't worry Faith, you'll get it tomorrow just in time to remind you that it's not your birthday anymore.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 35,943 Mod ✭✭✭✭dr.bollocko

I've got an 18 hour delay at the moment.
Kinda hampering my mod spidey powers as I tend to only take a sneaky gawk at the gmail whilst working.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

I checked to see if there was a delay between other forums or websites and Gmails but there doesn't seem to be. For another forum I'm on (that also uses VB) I receive the notifications through Gmail immediately.

I think this could be an issue between Boards and Gmail only?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,992 ✭✭✭✭gurramok

Same here from a non-mod mere mortal :)

Should of got at least a dozen mails on active threads today, not a single one has arrived in gmail yet from boards only!

Don't know much about postfix, but a quick google says that the mails are sitting with boards waiting for delivery.

Perhaps with the DNS change Gmail are accidentally implementing some form of Honeypot to prevent spam?

Must be, I'm getting my notifications fine, and they're passed from ross@boards.ie to gmail. So must be anything routed directly from us to the gmail smtp server.

    Pointless breeze-shooting here:

Can you pause the queue on postfix, configure it to relay all mail to someone upstream (like Digiweb) and then kick it off again?
