Most of the time I hate screwattacks top 10 lists becasue I disagree with every entry they put in but in this case they really did put in some crackers. Was going to put in either bubbleman or Wiley stage 1 from Megaman 2 and they had Wiley stage 1 (quite possibly the greatest bit of 8-bit music ever). Also they reminded me just how gorgeous the secret of mana theme was.

Here's another classic from the Ghouls n' Ghosts series:

And from the game with some of the best megadrive music ever, Rocket Knight Adventures:

    How could I forget.

    Terras theme

Lots of classics mentioned (Deus Ex, Castlevania etc...) and they are all well and good.
And then this piece of brilliant nonsense came around and showed what contemporary video game music is all about:

Anyone who doesn't adore that piece of music has no soul :P

One of my favourites is the Phendrana Drifts theme from MP:

Here's a couple of my favourites, first up Cosmo Canyon, one of the best themes from Final Fantasy VII, and an overlooked one in my opinion.

Next up, is a recent one, from Virtua Fighter 5, Kage's theme. The Virtua Fighter soundtracks have been awesome in the last two installments, some real gems, like the snow fort in VF4, but I'm putting this one in because I think that it's better, and I love the arrangement on it.

Finally, one from Metal Gear Solid. My favourite game ever, and I'm going again with what I hope is a less obvious choice. Psycho Mantis' theme really unnerved me when I first played the game. It still does now.

Sorry, no embedding for these I'm afraid, I failed at it.

    It's worth listening to though.

    Wolfenstein 3D
    Halo
    Duke Nukem 3D
    Battlefield 1942
    Streets of Rage
    Metal Gear Solid

Probably my favorites. The Medal of Honor games have always have particularly excellent music scores and themes, especially the original game on the PSX.

Actually, that Bf:Vietnam music reminds me of another forgotten but loved classic with a great OST: No One Lives Forever

"Cos No One Lives Forevvvvver ... But Evil Never Diiiiiiies ... "

    :D

Either "Ozar Midrishim" from Soul Reaver 1. Very vampire-ish.

Or "Snake Eater" from Metal Gear Solid 3. Very Bond-ish

The snake eater theme is laughably bad. You just can't take it seriously with your wan scream 'snake eater!' sounds like a porn soundtrack :) Unfortunate really because other than that it's very bond like.

Come of it you cynic! The SE theme tune is outstanding.

Yes it was apart from the fact it was called snake eater. What were they thinking it's not like the series needed anymore innuendo, what with Big Boss and Solid Snake :)

Would have to be Jean Michelle Jarre's intro for Captain Blood on the Amiga. Pretty lame now, but very kewl for 1991:

Oh, forgot another personal fave - as much for the whole OST as for the main theme - Mass Effect. It sounds like John Carpenter (the good John Carpenter btw) if he had to do a Star Trek theme tune

    Master of the Universe

Another one of my own Favourites - The whole soundtrack to Alisa Dragoon.

Speaking of Katamari, this piano piece is fantastic. I really should get around to learning to play it.

Apart from that, I've always thought the Dawn of War music is really excellent, pretty much all of it, but here's the Space Marine's theme as an example.

What are you on about? He eats snakes, and he's after the Cobra Unit, hence Snake Eater.

You really do pick at things an aweful lot for really simple little details, and some of your posts can come across very haughty and condescending because of it.

I think/thought it had more to do with the fact he eats snakes in the Forrest etc in that game.

Maybe I didn't read enough into it.

Amazing the MGS which probably got the least hype/attention was the best.

Oh. my. god. how the mighty have fallen. My ears will never be the same again.

The music for Shadowrun on the SNES was pretty cool, listened to that a lot..

For me it's BF2, brings some warm memories when I was fully hyped up waiting for it's release.
