Agreed, most of us have broadband now and I can't see why we should make do for those unfortunate to be stuck with a low speed connection. Sure they'll only be dissapointed when they try to open the links anyways ;)

Images, but limit to a set size of 40k and 1 per post?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I wouldnt be a fan of that because i view 40 posts per page, i'd end up milling through acres of cat pictures, pedo bear pics etc before i'd have the page read........

Some pictures would probably turn into a 'yore ma' type response and get old very quick. IMO.

That'll lead to post whoring I'd say.

Isn't there any way to have a forum option like "display embedded images" that you can turn off? Or have another type of code tag and put dialup users in a group that cant see them :P

I've 40pp also - obviously people posting shíte should be banned, though, so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

In general there has to be less utter bollocks in here. Posting a pedo bear in every second thread is not my idea of a decent forum.

Believe me I've been tempted many a time (I actually did it once in a thread because there was so many of them deleted). We are kinda wary about banning people for using yore ma. Simply because it's a pretty crap thing to get banned for. I have warned and banned people before for excessive use of it and I will definitely continue to do so.

AC what about taking a month where there is a blanket ban on it ( i realise its more work for the ah mods but hear me out) and hopefully after the month is done it will be phased out/significantly lessened.

When there was talk about a new ah mod (not javaboy, think it was before dr bollocko started) people were talkin about what they would do for ah and my thoughts were if i was the first mod on a thread i would ban anyone usin it as its gotten beyond a joke now.

Failing that what about a filter like we have for **** **** **** etc :)

Well, people at the moment can post links to an image, so if the image appeared in the thread only after you click the link it would be the exact same but more convenient for viewer. It would be just like the way Youtube vids can be embedded but they don't auto play.
If there was a 'safe' moderated image host (which is essentially what youtube is for vids) that didn't allow porn, vulgar or racist pics then it could work by creating [safeimg] [/safeimg] tags or something to link to it. Allowing people to post uncontrolled images or embbeded thumbnails would just encourage trolls to come and post stuff that would make you throw up your lunch or get sacked in work etc...
It's ok elsewhere on the site - that's because elsewhere isn't AH.
    - Alert people of deleted posts if possible. "yore ma" posters shouldn't be notified because it's in the charter.
It would be great if it could be automated (sitewide) that you get a pm when a mod edits or deletes your post. I would see it as a lot of work otherwise.
    - I like Javaboys new bold writing when giving warnings. It makes the post stand out from the rest.
+1 Totally agree, I've always advocated that actual moderator instructions in-thread should somehow be visibly different than the general banter.
©Wibbs in personal issues I think.

Its annoying, anal, and irritating. About the only word you could justify it for is "c*nt" as its one of the very few that actually causes offence. As a nation, we've always been known to fire in a few effs and blinds, and have still managed to produce one or two writers of note, therefore I see no reason why we should develop a stick-up-the-arse mentality about it now.
AFAIK, the swear filter is site-wide, not forum specific so it's probably not feasable to relax it just for AH.
Besides, it's not as if it's difficult to bypass.

...then might I suggest that it be binned site-wide. If individual fora want to enforce a policy on the matter, it would be up to then. I've been admin on both where theres no automation (Not my idea, not my site - Conservative Americans, though often willing to bomb people to oblivion, get a bit funny about "bad language" ), and once you make it clear what the limits are, generally its no problem to run.

Maybe create a feedback thread for it?

If you want to suggest that you could post a thread in feedback, it's been suggested before and shot down.

Most of the site contains reasonable discussion without any need for swearing so I don't see why it should be disabled just to accommodate AH (and maybe a few other forums). It would also be a nightmare to police it.

As I said, in the few places it's tolerated, people generally know how to bypass the filter.

a good idea would be to make sticky's for the following

    1. People on the dole
    2. foreigners - 'dey tukd arr jaawbs'
    3. Lisbon treaty is end of the world/saviour of all
    4. How irish are you? Not irish eneough - get out!
    5. Fianna Fail raped me - discuss
    6. Dubs v's Culchies

Either make stickies of them or ban them, because every second thread is about this crap - it would give one single place for people to spill all of this vitriol - like a drainhole.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. I asked for this on the last thread and AC said he'd talk to CuLT about it. See no reason why it shouldn't happen.

So here we are, the time you lot get to stick your oar in and let us know what you think about after hours and how we can improve on it. We would appreciate constructive criticism though, so none of your "it's a load of bollix" please. :D

When thanks was brought in it was removed from after hours and a few other forums. Due to the amount of users asking for it to be brought in, it was decided that it should be given a trial run and here we are. So you guys do have the power to change things. The way this forum is run is based quite a lot on user input so your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reading and we're looking forward to your replies.

    *unsubscribes from thread* :)
    More freedom of speech.

When they switched Thanks back on for AH I think they just forgot to switch it on for Pics & Vids. Would be dead handy for the YouTube thread as plenty of great stuff gets posted in there.

Your breath taking critical analysis of the subject matter and general content of after hours, has left me both amazed and apopleptic with miniature orgasms of insight in my otherwise unstimulated mind.

Please expound further on this controversial view.

When executed perfectly and ironically - YORE MA - can work. After Hours wouldn't be the same without the legacy it's built! For every 20 awful uses of it, there's one peach.

Apart from that get rid of avatars or annoying sigs.

You can choose to browse with these off. Also, not really an AH so much as a boards issue.

A sticky explaining why freedom of speech cannot exist on a forum such as boards due to our backwards legislation.

Introduce a script (without warning) that randomly selects an AH post every day, bans the user for two weeks and sends them an abusive message. Access to Feedback and Help Desk would also be automatically rescinded for 48 hours.

Also the mods and admins could deny all knowledge of such a script, but allow rumours and Chinese whispers to fester about the 'lost posters'.

The element of surprise would add a bit of spice to posting.

The posters in the Lost forum take themselves way too seriously. Bad idea IMHO.
