Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

XP Home won't install :/

For the last two weeks I can't access the net on my laptop. The internet is fine as the PC gets on the net no problem. Another problem is I can't do a system restore to before the problem started, I just get something like system restore could not restore to this point please try another. So the problem must be a bug or trojan?

I've a genuine copy of XP Home here, but when I try to install it I get "This version will not install because the version you have currently installed is newer". I've had the laptop from new and it's 2 years old. When I boot from the XP Home CD I get "Setup did not find any hard disk drives"...

Any ideas please?, I just wanna install XP again as I have everything backed up.

    Thanks.

Your hard drive in your laptop is most likely sata. The drivers aren't on the xp install disk for it.

You need to have them either on the disk or on a floppy disk.

You could use nlite to slipstream them onto a xp install disk.

if you didn't get a restore cd with the pc, maybe you have a recovery partition on the laptop, if so that will rebuild the pc like new in 10mins

    what make is it

I don't know were the restore CD's are :o. There are 2 partitions, see attachment, but ie the (D:) drive there is a folder called "Recycled" and in that there's nothing

My laptop is a Compaq Presario C300.

    Thanks

The D Drive(PRESARIO_RP) you posted in the picture is your recovery drive. This is how you can restore you pc to the same state it was when you bought it.

Recovering from the Partition on the
    Hard Drive
You can perform a recovery from the partition on the hard drive
from either the Start button or f11.
To restore the system from the partition:
    1. Access the PC Recovery tool:
❏ To access PC Recovery from the Start button, select
Start > All Programs > System Recovery > PC Recovery.
❏ To access PC Recovery from f11, restart the computer and
press f11 while the “Press <F11> for recovery” message is displayed on the screen. The PC Recovery tool opens.
    2. Select PC Recovery and click Next.
The computer restarts and the PC Recovery tool opens.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the
    system recovery

If you want to perform a destructive recovery:
A destructive recovery formats the hard drive and restores the
computer to its factory state. Select this option only as a
    last resort.
    a. Click Advanced Options on the System Recovery screen.
    b. Select Destructive Recovery and follow the on-screen
    instructions.

I think by selecting a destructive recovery it will remove any virus or Trojans that might be there but it will also remove all you personal files and programs you have on the hard disk.

imho, you should try and clean your current computer the way it is. A good place to start would be to use Smit fraud Fix.

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

Its free and does one hell of a job.
