Hi, I'm no expert, but since your post went unanswered so far, here goes...

Clubs: Here is a list of clubs and some info on each one.

Licensing law: Air rifles are classed as firearms, so the licensing is exactly the same as for real rifles/shotguns. You go and buy one from a dealer, and he gives you a receipt with the details & serial number of the firearm - then you take that to your local Garda district station, and fill out an application form. You need to have a legitimate reason to own the gun - either join a club, or get permission from a landowner to shoot on their land.

Hunting: If you're hunting with an air rifle you will probably need to be getting very close to your quarry, as they have very limited power. Don't know much about this, but I'd bet you wouldn't be able to reliably kill anything bigger than a rabbit with one. You might want to consider a .22LR if you want to go hunting (licensing procedure is the same).

Your best bet is probably to go and visit a few clubs and try out different types of shooting, and talk to people there, before you go spending money on a rifle.

There is a sticky for this type of info already available here in the Tips Section, Firearms Act. Welcome & good luck with the application etc.
