    4 lions,very funny
Very disappointed with this. Was expecting so much more, with Chris Morris on board.

Some reviewer called it an Al Qaeda Dad's Army.

Just about sums it up to be honest.

The Town, decent flick all round, nothing hugely original but very enjoyable. I'll be watching Easy A; The Social Network; Machette when i can.

The Man From Nowhere (2010). Great Korean action film, a bit like Man on Fire or Leon.

    Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy:

Hugely entertaining and wonderfully exciting films, with Johnny Depp on frighteningly good form as the wonderfully rogue-ish and scruffy Captain Jack Sparrow. Sterling supporting characters being ably played by Geoffrey Rush, Bill Nighy, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Kevin McNally, Jonathan Price, Tom Hollander and Jack Davenport flesh out the films, but these films truly belong to Depp. Jack Sparrow is one of his best roles, and he lends a wonderfully slurry, lecherous quality to his egotistical (yet easily humbled) and conniving pirate captain.

While the quality of the films diminished slightly with each passing film, do not let that distract from the fact that they are simply such wonderfully entertaining and silly films (sometimes the parts being better than the whole). Well worth a watch, especially the opening chapter, The Curse Of The Black Pearl. 9/10 for the whole series.

    Inception

A truly marvellous piece of film-making from arguably the hottest director on the planet at the moment (Christopher Nolan), this is one of the most truly stunning and majestic films ever. The plot deals with the idea that ideas/plans/information can be stolen ('Extracted' in the film) from a person's subconscious while they are dreaming; said extractions occurring while the subject is sleeping. One man, however, wishes to do the opposite and plant an insidious idea into a competitor's mind. The process known as 'Inception'. Enter Leonardo diCaprio and his debonair team of 'dream warriors' (shall we call them?) who are up to the seemingly nigh on impossible task of Inception. Large scale action sequences, dizzyingly breathtaking set-pieces, wonderful plot and superb acting make this a must-see. 10/10

    Ghostbusters

Back to the lovable and silly films now, with this 1980's tale of 3 parapsychologists who team up to help fight all manner of horrible things that go bump in the night. They quickly become heroes in New York, as they stop all the ghosties and ghoulies that pop up to harass the citizens. Sigourney Weaver features as the love interest (I'd have thought she'd be a brilliant Ghostbuster-ette, what with 'Get away from her, you bitch' and all that, but no, she's relatively helpless here). Excellent stuff, and hugely amusing. Bill Murray steals the show as his wise-cracking, cynical and love lorn psychologist turned paranormalist. 8/10

    This Is England

The bleak and boring state of the English midlands in the early 1980's is brilliantly captured here. A young boy (Sean) cannot find acceptance anywhere and is still bitter and upset following the death of his beloved father in the Falklands War. He meets a group of young people who are members of the skinhead subculture, but who are not malicious nor 'bad', but who are simply a close knit group of friends and they take Sean under their collective wing, turning him into a mini-skinhead, but helping him come out of his shell more.

Things turn a bit more nasty and serious when another, older skinhead is released from prison and comes back and tries to take back 'his' old gang. This is Combo, a violent racist. Woody, the younger progressive gang leader takes his gang away, but Sean remains with Combo. Combo begins to mould Sean in his own image.

Yet, Combo is not as simple a character as he seems; he harbours an intense inferiority complex from his poverty-stricken upbringing and life and he is also struggling to come to terms with an unrequited love. This makes Combo one of the most intriguing characters in film. You want to despise him as he is psychopathic and xenophobic, but also you cannot help but feel sorry for him at times (the scene where he attempts to talk to the girl for whom he has been carrying a torch for is truly heartbreaking) and Stephen Graham truly makes the character come alive.

Truly a riveting story and with two superb acting talents on display. Thomas Turgoose is absolutely marvellous as the young Sean, while Stephen Graham gives the performance of a lifetime as the conflicted Combo.

    Truly a masterclass in British film-making. 10/10

Let The Right One In (swedish versh) Finished the book a while ago, I have just gotten around to watching the film. It was quite good. As gory as the book ;)
If you like clever, sparse, Nordic horror -you'll like this.

Watched Seven again last night as I picked it up on Blu ray. I saw it in the cinema when it released and again a couple of times on dvd.

Its still a fantastic film. Absolutely mesmerising. The Blu ray transfer is excellent. Even though I knew what was going on, I was engrossed from start to finish and of course the ending was always the icing on the cake for me.

Pitt is excellent in it but its Morgan Freeman who steals the show with probably the performance of his career.

The Book of Eli Didn't expect too much from this, but I enjoyed it.

Crazy Heart Great film, Jeff Bridges back to his best. Great story about an alcoholic musician who's career is floundering. Some nice county n western tunes in it too.

The Hangover average enough film with a few lol moments,
The part where they robbed Mike Tyson's tiger was gas!

    The Mist

Someone mentioned it here so I said I'd check it out. Found it rather meh to be honest, the characters were quite annoying
That Jesus freak bugged the crap out of me, so happy when she got shot!
(think it was supposed to be that way though) and I didnt really care for any of them.

I've been following the walking dead and it was interesting to see the actors (and characters for that matter) that Frank Darabont likes to use.

Towards the end it got kind of silly I found that the ending didn't come across very well.

    Cant say i'd recommend it.

    The prestige.
Reasonably interesting and a nice pace right the way through the movie. The M Night style ending absolutely ruined the whole movie for me. Tesla nonsense etc. God how retarded an ending. Just couldn't get over it.

    Casino

Better than Goodfellas, in my honest opinion... and that is unreal. Because Goodfellas is one of my most favourite films of all time. I simply love that film to bits. But I just find Casino to be superior in terms of the acting, the plot... and the setting. Viva Las Vegas.

Robert deNiro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, Don Rickles, James Woods, Frank Vincent... the cast is stellar, with the three leads putting in shifts that are nothing short of incendiary. Pesci is walking through familiar territory; Tommy deVito from Goodfellas is essentially re-located and retconned into Las Vegas. But that is not a bad thing! Pesci is still incredible and devastatingly brutal in this role, as much as he was for his Oscar-winning turn as Tommy five years previous.

The plot of the life and crimes of the crooked bookie-cum-casino exec and his bloody rise and fall, is captured here on an epic scale by Scorsese. The rock soundtrack throbs in the background as the story unfolds across the gaming floors of Las Vegas. The visuals of the neon glamour of Vegas are stunning, providing the perfect backdrop for the ultimate story of sleaze and violence that comes with mob life.

A perfect film to watch anytime, but especially for an evening in.

    10/10

    Tomorrow When The War Began

story of an extended group of friends who head out on hike in autrailia before they head back to scool,

while in the outback one night they see dozens of planes flying overhead, thinking noting of it, they finnish out there weekend and head home to discover there hime has been invaded by a foreign force,

fairly above average film, and a damn good austrailian film, its the first part of a trilogy, parts 2 and 3 rent out till 2012 and 2013,

i was expecting half the cast of HaA and neighbours but i think there were two that had fairly regular castings (the lead being one) in them and one or two that had a few eps, a few of the other cast arent austrailian at all,

    8/10

Watched Se7en last night. Had not seen it in years and had picked up the blu ray cheap enough.

If anything it has gotten even better with it's introduction to the newer format.

Details at the crime scenes stand out now, and the sound quality is excellent.

The film itself is brilliant, and the two leads put in top performances. The villain of the piece, whose name I will not mention for folk who have not seen it yet. is just perfect and puts in a chilling performance whenever he is onscreen.

I watched a nice little Hallmark movie with Erin Karpluck and James Van Der Beek, Mrs. Miracle, it was pretty well acted by both leads + the dialogue wasn't to horrible, very predictable story. But for an Xmas flick you could do worse.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1431115/

Then i watched an old Lifetime movie with Michelle Tractenberg, see i kinda crush on her so i watched it, kinda average:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0452611/

Today i intend to watch Death Race 2, Toy Story 3 + another Xmas movie...a Nanny For Christmas...why?, ah Emmanulee Vaugier + Dean Cain!

    Atonement

Fantastic adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel. For anyone who hasn't seen it, please do, and don't be put off by the film's appearance as another Keira Knightley corset romance. It's not a romance, but a character study. The third act has a twist that would put M. Night Shyamalan to shame. However, unlike all of Shyamalan twists, this one works brilliantly, being both heartbreaking and profound.

I really liked Atonement too, again likely because it is far from your typical, overwrought period drama. OK, overwrought it may be in some regards, but it's a twist up there with the best, because it enhances all that has come before it rather than belittle it.
One of the only films I've seen that have justified the '50 years later' trick, which I usually despise as a narrative device.

Also, the soundtrack is great :)

Watched Ratatouille the other day. Thought it was a fantastic little film. Amazes me the way Pixar can constantly put out films like that. Not on the level of Up or the Toy Storys but far better than any of the Shreks anyway that's for sure.

Also watched A Few Good Men that night as well. Another very good film. Fairly complicated at times and I'd have to watch it again to get a full idea of everything that happens in it. Reassuring to see that Tom Cruise was actually a good actor before he went crazy. Jack was brilliant in it playing the Colonel.

Finished watching Scott Pilgrim vs The World earlier, and really enjoyed it. Some of the exes were very funny, and the film in general nipped along at a good pace. Anyone who loved gaming in the 80's and 90's will be smiling at many of the references in the film.

Later tonight I will be watching Piranha 3D, which I am looking forward to, and am hoping is a bit of braindead splatter fun.

    The Remains of the Day

I've seen this a few times and I'm always amazed by how restrained it is. Probably a career-best performance from Hopkins who conveys so much about his character without speaking it. The film captures the period really well.
