Yeah did a quick google on it to see which version to view. Half an hour into the special edition now.

I prefered the alien coming out of a dog instead of an ox, as I like the idea that it takes on some characteristics of its host organism, hence why its faster and more aggresive in this one. But aside from that its far superior to the original.

I thought the transfer looked fantastic. The grain is there but in no way intrusive and if anything adds to the whole experience.

I thought it looked great too after I adjusted some settings on the TV. I had it way too bright. This will give a woefull noise fest of a picture. Just giving a heads up as I was horrified when I first viewed it.

    watched the godfather last night

i always thought i perfered the second one but ive now changed my view , the second one is preocupied with back story and contempory political events , 1st one is more of a morality tale IMO

Funny enough, I always preferred the second. When I saw the first I was always wondering when the elements about Brandos early days in America were going to be introduced.

I watched Never Let Me Go and True Grit today. Both were not as good as I hoped they would be.

I watched Rear Window last night on RTE, I'd never seen it before, I thought it was fantastic, all I knew of it was the simpsons parody...
Maybe I'm a bit biased, I love an older movie but how can you not love James Stewart and Grace Kelly!
    I recommend

Zombieland. Thought it was excellent. Really wasn't expecting it to be that good after reading some reviews.

I saw Vertigo and Dial M for Murder over Christmas for the first time. Both great.. particularly Dial M. James Stewart is so likeable and she's just beautiful.

Rewatched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom after it was brought up in the Crystal Skull thread. Has its flaws (those silver dancing girls break the fourth wall dammit) but still fun to watch.

    "The antidote!"
    "Where's the diamond?!"
    "Ngh!"

    SAW 7

Far bleaker and on the high-end of gore (even for SAW), but still quite enjoyable. I liked how subtly they put Jigsaw into the film. Although since the movie grossed over $120m (it cost ~$20m) I reckon we'll get another one.

I enjoy SAW for what it is, and am willing to plonk down 11 euro to see it once a year. A torture-porn fest with some kind of moralistic tale, slight social commentary and a revelation at the end, weaving itself into past SAWs. It's good enough for me.

    Iron Man 2 - Tripe.

Joe Defranco's Strong. It's a weightlifting documentary and it's a pretty good watch.

The Way Back, its overlong and slowly paced (not always a bad thing) but I enjoyed it, the scenery is stunning and its a gorgeous movie to look at, Ed Harris is dependable as always and Farrell is alright in an underwritten role, not a bad attempt at Russian accent either. The constant shots of nothing happening but people walking do grate after 90 mins or so but still worth a watch.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - heartbreaking.

True Grit - A bit of a depature for the Coen brothers, not their usual type of film they've been farming out in the past few years.

Was pretty good but not fantastic (or Film of 2011 which we'll be hearing very soon). Cinematography is excellent and reeks of the old Westerns in their hey-day. Soundtrack is also quite powerful and lifts the movie up and beyond your average modern Western movie.

Bridges was enjoyable as always but he's no John Wayne, Damon was good too but the film belonged to the 14 year old girl (can't think of her name). She put in a great and quite mature performance.

Some strangely predictable moments in the 2nd half (for a Coen movie) which kind of stop this from being great.

The Fighter - An above average and enjoyable movie with some great performances and characters but this is Bale's movie. Whenever you feel the movie is going to drag in he comes and brings it back with a great turn a Dickie. This is the nod he deserves.

Other than that, it's very ho-hum and Rocky 6 (not a bad thing but you feel like you've seen it all before with other boxing movies).

Afterlife (2009) - GF wanted to watch this Liam Neeson / Christina Ricci movie. Pretty damn shìt with some dreadful dialogue and pretty much every horror cliche under the sun (creepy old woman spouting nonsensical stuff, creepy kid, endless rising music before a stock "shock" moments, etc). It has only one mystery which tries to painfully keep you guessing but even a person with brutal attention-span will cop it at the beginning.

What saves this from being a total write-off was Ricci showing her boobs and arse plenty of times :D

At 100 minutes this film feels faaaaaar too long. Don't let the presence of Liam Neeson attract you, he plays a very forgettable role. The plot-holes in this movie are shockingly gaping, too!

Event Horizon Gore filled fun! Pretty good Sci-Fi. I then read on Wikipedia that the movie flopped big time!

Wasn't Mortal Kombat the movie that got his high-quality career off to a start.

Event Horizion is probably his best film..............which isn't saying a terrible amount. Good grief, that AVP and Resident Evil films are woeful!

Yeah but I like Mortal Kombat :pac:

Event Horizon isnt the worst film, its basically the Shining but in space, not great, not awful, some cool visuals. AvP and the Res Evil movies are horrendous though, how you can fcuk up a premise where Aliens fight Predators is beyond me.

Its A Wonderful Life - Have had this a while but only got around to seeing it over Xmas. Brilliant movie. Ive heard there is a colour version but the black and white only adds to its appeal.

Radiers Of The Lost Ark - Have it on DVD but watched it on TV over Xmas. Saw it loads of times but for some reason it gets better everytime. The action is unmatched IMO.
Escaping the Well Of Souls up until Indy reclaims the truck containing the Ark is fantastic action.

There Will Be Blood - Was told by a few people that this was crap so never got a chance to watch over the years but saw it over Christmas, I really enjoyed it. Great story and superb acting as always from DDL.

Meet the Parents - Hilarious, one of the better comedies.

The Social Network - Pretty good. Different if anything.

Commando - Got it on Blu Ray, very enjoyable. There will never be another Arnie. Acting Ability = 3/100. . Screen Presence 100/100

    The Fighter

TBH, I was a little disappointed but biopics are generally like that if you ask me.
The inaccurate depictions of how some of his fights were fought and winning one fight using a kidney punch?

Bale's performance as Dicky Eklund was superb

I got a good laugh at
Eklund hopping out window the 2nd time when his mother was looking for him

My favourite movie hands down, I've seen it hundreds of times and could happily watch it again right now, I'll never get sick of it. Its the perfect movie to me.

And the truck chase is one of the best action scenes ever, from the fight by the airplane up until the end of the chase its 20 or so minutes of action perfection. Indy going under the truck is one of my favourite stunts ever.

I watched all X-Men movies over the last few days. X-Men 1 and 2 are fantastically brilliant imo. The Last Stand and the Wolverine Origin film weren't as bad as others had told me.

Yeah its fantastic. The action is unequalled. They completley nailed the score for it too. Also the chemistry amongst the cast, youd be hard pressed to find a better flick. Also, it has IMO the greatest intro to a movie ever.
