Just watched Crimson Tide there on Sky 1, thought it was an unbelievably shīte film, wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Volume 2 is a lot less action orientated, feels more like a western than the first movie, hope you enjoy!
Indeed I did enjoy. Not as much action but the bits there was were very good. Plus when it's substituted for complex motives being discussed, I can happily sit and watch.

True Romance. Don't think I've enjoyed a film that much in ages! The cast is just ridiculous: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Gary Oldman (who is unreal), Val Kilmer (before his career went down the swanny), a young Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, James Gandolfini, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Penn, the list goes on. On top of that its written by Tarantino, scored by Hans Zimmer and directed by Tony Scott! What more could you want! Has to go down as one of my all-time favourites.

great movie, when Tarantino could write dialogue that didnt seem self serving and pretentious. Gary Oldman is fantastic as Drexel. "I know I'm pretty, but I aint as pretty as a coupla titties"

"Must a thought it was white boy day? It ain't white boy day is it?" "Nah man, it ain't white boy day." Brilliant stuff! Tarantino is a bit that way now alright but I still really enjoyed Inglorious Basterds. One thing I noticed is that some of the dialogue is ridiculously similar to Pulp Fiction, and Tarantino obsession with Charles Bronson continues!

    The Crimson Rivers (2000)

The first half of this was very tense indeed and I was really enjoying the split storyline. However, it became quite messy in the middle and once the ending came I was sorely disappointed.
It could have been a truly great film, but due to Reno's poor acting and the ridiculous conclusion to a very interesting criminal case, it did not deliver on every front.
Cassel was excellent as always though, what an actor he is.

film about traveller fueds that result in bare knuckle boxing matches, good film very enjoyable, my only complaint was the camera man/narrator could barely be heard in some parts as the background noise wasnt reduced.. otherwise good show worth a watch

Only reason I'd ever throw on True Romance ever again would be for Hopper and Walken. Definitely didn't hold up on a repeat viewing :(

Funeral in Berlin (1966). Michael Caine returns as the reluctant British spy Harry Palmer in this Cold War thriller. If you like realistic spy movies before the special effects took over the genre then this is for you. A really atmospheric movie shot in Berlin with a twist at the end. If you enjoyed the Ipcress File then this is for you and the good news is that there are a further three in the Harry Palmer series. I can't remember the last time that I saw Michael Caine in a bad movie, if you exclude the awful "Italian Job", and that was a long time ago. The intro clip below does not contain any scenes from the movie.

Tromeo and Juliet - as far as sleazy exploitation flicks based on Shakespeare plays go, this ain't half bad. Enough surreal, bizarre surprises to keep one engaged and a twisted sense of humour throughout - nipple piercing, incest, decapitations, genital mosters, interactive pornography and all kinds of other "treats". Love the 'alternate ending' too - ****ed up ****. First Troma (on a James Gunn buzz) but will definitely check out some more.

Been watching the Planet of the apes films recently. Gotten my way through 4 out of 5 of the original ones. Beneath was just plain weird. Possibly my least favourite of them. I quite enjoyed the Escape for what it was. kinda felt a bit like a comedy in places. Conquest was a rather weird one since it took suck a drastic turn into something that had a far darker tone than any of the others.
Still have to watch Battle for Planet of the Apes.

I've had this for a while and I've been meaning to get around to it - I expected it to be a let down though so hopefully my low expectations will allow me to be pleasantly suprised :)

If you liked Ryan Gosling in it check out Half Nelson -he's very good in that.

I watched W. by Oliver Stone. Frankly, I thought it was poor, dull, and adrift.

Positives include Brolin's acting which was spot on. The all-star cast was particularly effective and the speed of the film was good; going back and forth from Bush's ascent to the presidency and the crucial decision-making process over Iraq. Personally I enjoyed Jeffrey Wright's portrayal of Colin Powell which brought one element of level headed decision making in Bush's cabinet.

For me there's much too many negatives. Stone as a director has always been pretty difficult for me to understand, his opinions are very much carried over onto the screen, and this is a tirade against Bush. Granted there are some moments when Stone seems to feel slight tinges of sympathy for Bush, but these are crushed by the footage of Iraq in upheaval, saying words such as "misunderestimated", and generally dithering around. Stone really should have used the talents of Brolin to field a more three-dimensional narrative of Bush - which could have entered the vault as a movie-narrative in understanding a very difficult time in nation-hood. Instead we get Stone's movie as a vehicular method of criticsm.

The pace of the film, while being fairly quick had boring elements - probably a standard life, but Stone drags these out. One man giving up drink raises no awareness but Stone makes it as if it was the single biggest event in his life. The religious element was ridiculously overplayed. Certain historical elements were all wrong, for example: the soldier who Bush said "we'd run together" was actually white, not black. Further more, his aviation career was glanced over, no mention of his daughters, and his father didn't exert that much control over him. More could be told about his sister who died which would have reinforced Bush's errant ways. There's little told about presidential elections or the closely fought races. Absolutely nothing of Bush's positive points.

All in all, it's not really recommended. Certainly does provide some personal insights but historically weighing, you'd best read a book or look elsewhere. This method would provide much more understanding, rather than Stone's sharp two hour long criticism.

No they weren't, reviews for the film have pretty much been glowing. I think that it still has a 100% rating on rotten tomatoes.
