Enter the Void - Gaspar Noe's film about Oscar, a
Drug user turned dealer to fund his sisters plane ticket to Tokyo. There's some seriously f*cked up stuff in this movie, from the abortion scene to the implicit incestuous thing between Oscar and Linda.

Definitely worth watching for the excellent visual presentation alone but be prepared for a completely messed up storyline and disturbing scenes.

The Rum Diary: Went to go see this yesterday evening with a mate without knowing anything about it really.

It was entertaining in parts and got a bit of a laugh out of some scenes but I don't know if it was trying to be a drama or a comedy.
Some of the story seemed to lose direction a bit along the way.

I also felt that it was a little too long and the story dragged.

It was ok I guess but it's not a film I'd have been anticipating much.

bit of a let down, the trailer looked so funny but that was the only funny parts of the film, predictable ending too :(:(:(
    thumbs down, save your money...

The third in the Bourne Trilogy "The Bourne Ultimatum" (1990). Despite being another exciting movie it's the weakest of the trilogy in my opinion but I can't put my finger on why. I'm still looking forward to the new Bourne movie despite the absence of Matt Damon. In the meantime, to feed my craving for more of the same I've just ordered the "Bourne Identity" (1988) - the made for TV movie.

Just watched it, not a bad film but not as good as I thought it was gonna be.

I think the sequel should be interesting.

    7/10
Great Movie,I managed to buy that new from play.com a while back for 5 euro.
I was a little bit disappointed with the follow up,it's more political but still worth watching.

The Chef of South Polar - delightful comedy about seven guys in an Antarctic Research Centre. Focusing on the chef, this is smutty but glorious pornography for anyone who's into Japanese food. Reminded me of Tampopo in that regard. Very funny too, with loads of amusing, well considered setpieces. Also tackles slightly darker themes of isolation in a subtle way, while keeping the tone consistent. My one concern is that it has around twenty three endings - there was plenty of times in the last act when it seemed like it was going to cut to black, and came across as somewhat overstretched as a result. Still, great stuff, and surprised it hasn't gotten a significant release.

Kabei: Our Mother - Mostly successful, small scale look at wartime Japan through a domestic setting. The focus is kept on one family after the author father is arrested for 'thought crimes'. The period Tokyo is realised beautifully, and director Yoji Yamada has some impressive storytelling and visual tricks up his sleeve. What holds it back is a slight overabundance of sentimental cliches towards the conclusion - a last minute contemporary 'flash forward' is notably ill conceived. Overall, heartfelt and moving, but a few misjudged moments hold it back from greatness.

    Win Win

Really enjoyed this - quirky, feelgood and great performances - in particular from Paul Giamatti.

It's the second Thomas McCarthy movie I've seen and there are a lot of parallels with the Station Agent (also great) - hard to believe this is the same guy who played the reporter in the Wire who made stories up!

    Pan's Labyrinth

Had this for 3 or 4 years and couldn't drag myself to watch it despite hearing good reviews. "Spanish civil war" in a synopsis put me right off for some reason:rolleyes:
I'll have to stop reading reviews...loved the movie..the 2 or so hours flew by, which is always a good marker for me. I would defo recommend it.

You did well to get that far, the non performance of Weak Tea was enough to end my interest after about 10 minutes.

The Informant!: Found this pretty entertaining and got a laugh or two out of it. It's worth a watch. I particulalry enjoyed the narrative over certain scenes about the characters previous experiences that have nothing to do with the current scene.

That probably sounds confusing but if you've seen it or are planning to watch it, you'll understand. :pac:

Thought the humour in the movie was brilliant - Damon was hilarious in it

The Wind That Shakes the Barley
Well, there's a bit too much pathos at times, and I don't like Cillian Murphy at all, but... This film has atmosphere. Good, all in all.

It's about as subtle as a punch in the stomach with its message and some of the acting is pretty weak but It's pretty watch-able

Was on bbc2 over the weekend and I thought it was amazing. George was always the beatle I identified with most and this film made me feel that even more so. His wifes description of his passing got me big time.

I loved the list of all the Harrison songs at the end. His gift for songwriting is often overlooked. It didn't try to simplify the man, or smooth over any of his rough edges. A gripping and insightful tour through the many strange times he lived through and contributed to.

The Exterminator (1980) one of most controversial vigilante flicks and subject to much editing on release this popped up on Horror Channel (hang on its not a horror flick!) as part of the Video Nasty season. I remember the trailers for this as it seemed quite grimy/atmospheric well the actual film is pretty damned prosaic mainly due to James Glickenhaus' failure as a script writer. Stuff just happens without context, its like he was in a rush (ah we don't need show how the gang knew where to find Michael/how John tracked down the mobster etc) as a result the film until the last 20 mins lacks momentum. Robert Ginty isn't an actor so Christopher George, an exploitation veteran takes the honours. The best part of the film is the settings of "old school" New York - crumbling tenements, broken roads, nickel and dime cinemas, whore houses, streetwalkers and the like.

Larry Crowne: "Meh" film. Not even George Takei as an economics teacher could really save it for me :pac:. Story was alright but very predictable.

Stake Land....somewhere on the journey from Zombieland to The Road is Steak Land. One of those films I really enjoyed but can't put my finger on why. :)

    The Ides of March

I really like all the films that George Clooney directs. He goes a bit political with the stories he chooses and, although you may find a cliche here or there, there is always food for thought.
Great performaces in this one too - especially by Ryan Gosling and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Ides of March. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. Was delighted to see PSH and Paul Giamatti in it too :) George is doing some good work, hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Really enjoyed it as well. Would put it as being closer to the Road crossed with I Am Legend (the book not the films).

Loved the webisodes that are in the extras as well.

    Grosse Pointe Blank.

I liked it, as I tend to with John Cusack films. Good fun, if a little all over the place at times. It's got a really good soundtrack as well.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

"I'm not crazy, I'm just colorful!" I just really enjoy Paul Newman & Robert Redford together... The Sting is another classic..
