Trailer does no justice to how weird that film is. Basically an 'ordinary' housewife whose husband is living away on a business trip finds a flyer asking for spies and decides to join. Even the fifteen minutes set up just to get that point in the film is ridiculous. In a good way.

Just finished watching The Hurt Locker. A very original war film by Kathryn Bigelow. Yep that's right, a Woman!

Anyway, while reading about it online I came across this awesome roundtable discussion. You've got Bigelow, Tarantino, James Cameron, Peter Jackson, Jason Reitman and some other guy.

watched The Box last week..only alright..other half thought it was brilliant but me not so much

Pandorum I thought was good but plot line was a bit confusing and thin on the ground at times

The International was very good..watched that the night before last..out of these 3 I'd recommend this over the other two

Law Abiding Citizen - surprisingly good... I had heard it described as torture porn, but thankfully that wasn't the case at all (there are a couple of gruesome scenes, mind you) Well worth a watch anyway:)

Inglorious Basterds - again, surprisingly good... I was basing my preconceptions on the trailer for it, which really wasn't representative of the film itself.

Avatar - visually a good movie, story wasn't great though. Felt like I was watching a remake of Fern Gully at times.

The Burning Plain - good movie, although a little confusing at times due to the different plots running through the movie.

The Hangover - I thoroughly enjoyed this romp through Las Vegas with the three hungover wedding-ushers.

Cobra - Harmless, ridiculous, bloody stupid and enjoyable Sly Stallone romp featuring Sly as a renegade cop (is there ever any other kind of cop?) protecting a vital witness.

First Blood - John Rambo's first outing sees him falling foul of small-town lawmen and taking a personal vendetta against them.

Great film, enjoyed it a lot but some people were lauding it as the greatest war movie ever, I can't agree even though it's a great representation of EOD and Iraq.

It's weird saying it but I don't think Jim Carrey suits comedy anymore.

Home alone 1 and 2. Classics and still enjoyable over 15 years later. Probably watch Jingle all the way at some stage today.

On a more serious note just watched Bird. Another terrific effort from Clint Eastwood. Forest Whitaker excellent as Charlie "Bird" Parker.

Been sick so been on a binge of DVDs I'd bought but hadn't watched. Intermission, The Three Burials of.... , Mad Max, Little Miss Sunshine, Days of Glory all excellent. Bit crap but enjoyable was Slither even if it's a rip off of a Cronenberg movie from the 70s called Shivers. And not so good was the latest Indiana Jones movie. Settling in to watch Mad Max 2 and possibly 3 if I'm not sleepy.

Watched that the other night as well, I think it's just that he has beaten the comedy thing to death at this stage.

This week I have mostly been watching...

The Ice Storm - Quite a depressing film, but has an amazing cast and some great performances.

Gomorrah - Interesting look at the ''mafia'' in Italy. Didn't really like the style in which it was shot and felt the acting left a bit to be desired, but worth a look anyway.

Persepolis - Really interesting look at the country of Iran and how women are treated there. Some brilliant animation and I would highly recommend this to everyone!!

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian - Awful, just awful. That is all.

Saw it last night aswell. Its good but not great, id give it 3/5.

Mutant Chronicles (watched this because Ron Perlman, John Malkovich and the promise of mutants, it was a mistake. Its cheap looking with a silly plot. Basically some steampunk zombie type setup in a post apocolyptic future.)

Into the Wild - A fantastic effort from Sean Penn, a really inspiring film. I watched it last night and just as it was ending I thought there was some irony attached to watching this film on christmas day. Those of you who have seen it will know what I'm talking about.
