    did he have polish ancestry? his dads name was John Stanislaus Joyce.

    Stanislaus is a Polish name. Can anybody shed light on this?

    I don't think so; it was probably chosen as a Jesuit name, after St. Stanislaus Kostka.

    I think his family on his father's side was from Cork, can't remember as it's a while since I read the Ellman biography. Don't remember any mention of Polish roots.
