Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I wonder how many Juninho of Lyon has scored in that case...

Edit: According to Wikipedia, he's scored 42 direct free kicks for Lyon as of 1/2/2009

So would I, I've got this stuff off Wiki and YahooAnswers.Juninho at 42 for Lyon, Becham has 54, and Ronaldinho has 55.But I can guarantee that Ronaldinho and Pirlo have more than 20 between them.

but Ronny only has about 130 career goals... would nearly 1 out of every 2 goals he scores be from a freekick?

Beckham would demolish them all in terms of assists from set pieces though.

And Beckham has even less career goals. Its hard to find the goals from free kicks so there's no point speculating on the assists

Becks aint speculation. Was a discussion on here before Xmas and we worked out that he had at least over 50 for Man Utd, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy. I know Ronaldinho has nowhere near 50 as he is not even prolific !Where did Ronaldinho score all these free-kicks as I can tell you now he didnt score a huge amount for Barca.

What you are saying is bollox. As the other poster above said no way has nearly 1 in 2 of all his goals been free-kicks absolutely not.

What, its true that Beckham has less goals than Ronaldinho, and its true that Ronaldinho and Pirlo have more than 20 goals between them, which was your first stupid statement.

You're saying that Ronaldinho can't have nearly 1 in 2 goals scored being free kicks and Beckham has more than 1 in 2.

Beckham according to stats has 114 goals and we know he has more than 50 free-kicks. Where does your Ronaldinho 50 odd free kicks come from ? Your talking bollox, go prove it ? There is a video on youtube of Beckham scoring 50 something different free kicks for Utd, Madrid, Galaxy and England claiming to be all his free kicks up to about about a year ago. Now since then we know he scored another for AC Milan about two weeks ago and most likely a couple for the Galaxy in the past year no doubt. I watch Barca every bloody week and have done so the past 3-4 years and your talking through your hoop brother because he probably averaged about 3-4 free kicks a season and no more. He is not even prolific at then ffs and has an over-hyped rep like Roberto Carlos did after scoring some crackers.

Laughable to call Ronaldinho not prolific at free kicks. Impeccable technique.

Not sure how reliable wiki answers is, but it has Ronaldinho on 55 free kicks scored, and Beckham on 54 after the one against Genoa. And considering Ronnie is 5 years younger, I think we can rubbish the argument that Ronaldinho was anywhere NEAR as overhyped as Roberto fcuking Carlos from free kicks.

In fairness R. Carlos scored over 70 goals for Madrid alone, and I'd say over half of them were free kicks. He must be an underrated free kick taker because everyone thinks he's overrated, only because he used to blast the wall so often and try the outrageous, while English commentators would only ever mention the goal against France. I've followed Madrid closely since before his time there and I'm sure he averaged at least 4 a season, which ain't bad!

I was reading another thread and this started to take over the discussion.

Rather than keep it going there I thought it better to start a new thread.

We all know how classy a free kick taker David Beckham is.

I remember Ronaldinho being very prolific at Barcelona from them.

Zizou was another excellent free kick taker although he didn't take them too often as he had Del Piero or Beckham with him for a lot of his club career.

Del Piero was also a magnificent free kick specialist but I don't think he has been as good as he was for quite some time.

You also have Pirlo at Milan who has been their no.1 free kick expert for many years now.

Juninho Pernambucano is considered by many as the greatest free kick taker of them all.

Mijailovic is another who must be considered.

For me personally Maradona is no. 1.

    Whats your thoughts?

I could start a poll but we'll see who should be in it first.

D-Becks from around 98-2002 was untouchable, seemed like every time he stepped up to the plate he put it away. Perhaps what was more impressive was the range of kick he had, keepers were always left guessing as to which way he would go, whether he would smack it or bend it etc.

However, if there was one man who over the length of his career could top D-Becks, it would be Siniša Mihajlović . He literally perfected the art of free kick taking, and won games single handily with them.

Anyone who says Roberto Carlos should be shot immediately.

That goal was out of this world but he seemed to think he could do it every time after that, and I think everyone was expecting a repeat for years after.
But no it was a one off.

i thought i heard on sky sports over the past 2 seasons that Ronaldo was the best free kick taker ever.I remember them seeing Del Piero score one and saying he must have been watching Ronaldo. If it was said by Andy Gray or Richard Keys it must be true:D

I think Maradona is my favourite. There's something about his free kicks that the keeper never seems to move. And some crazy angles.

    Recoba should get a mention.

I would say David Beckham and Juninho are the most prolific though.

    Sinisa Mijhailovich was just unbelievable.

R.Carlos is the most underrated free kick taker ever. Not the best mind, but damn effective. And some of the most spectacular. One of his free kicks in his first season, 96/97 at the Bernabeu I think at home to Seville, I just remember thinking I'd never seen anything quite like it. Amazing what he could do.
