Just a quick request, I require directions for (elderly) family members who are planning on meeting me at mile 17/18, anyone know the most direct way to/from city centre to Orwell Rd, Orwell Park or Miltown Rd?

I am presuming that the Luas would be the best option? Which stop would be best and is there much of a walk from the Luas stop to the 17/18 mile mark on the marathon route?

    Hi Ruarl,
If your group take the Luas from Stephens Green - Sandyford, if they get off at the Milltown stop, cross the tracks and turn left down Richmond Avenue, this will take them directly on to Milltown Road. And all the runners & walkers will pass this point, I think it is about the 21 mile mark. So from Luas to Milltown Road is about 150 meters. If they need refreshments The Dropping Well pub is very close to this junction.
Hope this helps, enjoy your day.

Last year my wife and kids used the LUAS to get to Miltown to cheer me on and then after I passed got back onto the LUAS and got to the Finish line to see me cross the line. - worked a treat as there was no real waiting around for the kids so they did not get too bored.

Gulp! did 20 miles last Sunday in 2 hr 36 mins. mainly on grass. died a death in the last 3 miles. Hope i feel better on Sunday for another 20 miler.. Quick question,...Does running on grass slow you down compared to road running? And if so, what would my 2 hrs 36 mins grass run have equated to if it had all been on road?

Does anyone know where in Dublin (City Centre preferably) sells High5 Gels? Probably would be a good idea to try them before the race to see that they are compatible with my delicate constitution.

Health Matters on Grafton Street sells them, they should be €1.10 each there. There are a few bike shops that sell them too.

Aye thanks to this lady i bought some in there, for aforementioned price last week. They have citrus fruits and orange flavours in there right now, when you walk in the door (beside Mc Donalds on Grafton St.) they are near the floor on the left.

According to the site they the gels are at 15 & 18 mile marks. You need to drink a good bit of water with them to enure they work correctly.

Got acceptance slip this morning nbr 6321. In middle group 330 to 415

or is that just HM's next challenge...

Good stuff Master of Nothing, have myself in at around 3.35 for first marathon. Like that would love to sneak in under the 3.30. Are you goin to run with the 3.30 pacer or go your own way

I would have thought 3:30 is easily within your grasp with that sort of time in training. A 3:30 marathon evenly paced would see you pass 21.5 miles in approx 2h52mins I believe so you're well ahead of that in training with no taper etc. If anything I think you're selling yourself well short aiming for "just" 3:30.
I'm also running my first marathon, hoping for 3:30, and feel confident after a 20.6 miler in 2:50! Which one of us is being realistic!?

You are looking at closer to 3:15 than 3:30 if you can do 21.5 in 2:45.
    Good luck

Does anyone know where in Dublin (City Centre preferably) sells High5 Gels? Probably would be a good idea to try them before the race to see that they are compatible with my delicate constitution.

I know youre looking to buy gels in Dublin city centre but if youre willing to head out to tallaght the cycle superstore are selling high 5 gels that are isotonic. No water required with them so theyre stand alone. I bought a box of them and theyre the business, gonna bring a few with me in the marathon. They go down easy aswell, easy on the digestion which is always a bonus.
