Nice one EE. Although the way you've been running at the moment, it wouldn't supprise me if you were closer to 3:00!

Had a howler in the park yesterday. Firstly my keys fell out of my pocket after 5 mile's and i spent a minute rumaging through grass finding them. Then after 19.25 miles I hit the wall and just stopped, only had .75 miles left. Longest walk of shame back to my bike! Now Im trying to rationalise/make excuses. Maybe the fact I cycled 4 miles to my start took some energy from me, though i was cycling slowly. Or maybe coz i decided after 9 miles to switch from grass to road. Or the fact that my last mile was up the kyber road in the Phoenix park which is a gradual uphill nightmare!! All the same, i did it in 2 hr 22 mins. Dont think I'll get under the 3 hours at that rate. If anything i'll be closer to 3 hr 30!

Resident "weather guru" here at work cannot (obviously) get e forecast yet for the 26th, but has told me that it will be 14oC.

    More to follow on Wednesday.

Stop that talk of 3:00. There's no chance. I'm endlessly reacalculating my race plan. I reckon the best I'll get to mile 21 is 2:35-2:40 and then allow 35-40 mins for the last 5 which means a finish of up to 3:20....although assuming nothing goes wrong 3:15 is a reasonable expectation....with approaching 3:10 an outlying possibility.

Sorry to see you had to cut back to 3:45. Any possibility of better?

Looking good there, but can we depend on a 15 day forecast... hope so.

OK, so long time lurking on this thread and 2 weeks to the day am officially throwing my hat into the (boards) ring. As a few people know from the Berlin marathon thread, I ran that one 3 weeks ago - don't think I'll be able to repeat that effort but did a 17 miler tonight and felt strong at the end so we'll see - will try and go under 3:05

Sorry to hear that KennyB3. Another good man bites the dust. Maybe yourself and osnola ivax could get together and have a marathon party! cheer on all the boards singlets!

I see the weather's getting colder:
    http://www.accuweather.com/world-forecast3.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&locCode=EUR|IE|EI006|DUBLIN&metric=1

But to compensate, there's no sign of rain, and West-South-West wind, that will guide us from UCD back into town. :)

Good to see you finally throwing your hat into the ring dude. Although I think youre underselling yourself a little, reckon at this stage you could do a 3:15 hopping on one leg.

Any other opinions from anyone? I'll post my times etc below

Thanks for the vote of confidence Tunguska but my average weekly mileage was 43miles. I'd be delighted with 3:15 so I'm gonna go out at that 7:27min/mile pace and give it everything from maybe 20 miles. It all depends how I feel on the day but I think its wise to be careful if going into it with lowish mileage. Either way I'll give it everything I have...like I always do.

Yesterday, I ran 16 miles in 1'53'40 which was a pace of 7'05. I could have kept that pace for another 3 miles if I really had to. Would have been fecked after that. I had two days off before that run.

The longer races I run, the less accurate mcmillan is for me when I plug in recent times. My half time was 1'29'01 and McMillan says 3'08 with that. All that sounds like I'm being negative I know but the times/facts speak for themselves. I'm happy to go for the 3'15 but would like to know what other people would do if they where me. Thanks.

I'll prob get ignored taking over the thread like this :D

    Hi Misty Floyd
I also think you're probably selling yourself short. Basing this purely on personal experience of course (not always the best evidence!). Looks like your doing very similar times + mileage to me - I'm doing about 40-46miles a week, did one 50 mile week. Did the same training plan last year where I did the half in 1'34 and the full in 3'14. Hoping to improve this year and get a BQ - did a half in same time as you this year - 1'29 - a 5 minute improvement so hoping to get sub 3'11.
But I guess you never know what'll happens on the day, a lot a variables I suppose, one of which (for me anyway) will be 'THE WALL' at 23/24 miles. Best of luck reaching your goal.

I was wondering what the process is for the start of the Dublin Marathon. I am hoping to run a sub 3 and am worried about been stuck behind thousands of runners and finding myself a few minutes off schedule after a the first 2 or 3mls. The only thing I saw was on the entry form where you could list whether or not you were sub 3:30 or not.
I have ran Boston before and there you have corals where you are positioned based on your predicted time (or number which is issued to you based on previous time).

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

There will be three starting 'pens' sub 3:30, sub 4:15(I think?) and then 4:15 and over. You'll just have to get yourself towards the front of the sub 3:30 one people who aren't sub 3:30 runners will have a sub 3:30 number and will get in your way but it's a LOT better than it would be if they didn't make you predict your time and if 95% of people weren't honest about it. :)

Thanks KJL3, very interesting. Thats the thing... 'THE WALL'. You just don't know whats going to happen. Once it kicks in, you don't even care about your time...you just want to finish and stop running.

    Good luck to ya.

No just walk around the inside of fitzwilliam square on the footpath past everyone, you can get right near the front if you want, theres loads of gaps in the barriers. i know its going in the opposite direction this year from the square but i imagine it will be the same.

Ahhh, not really when you think how few people will run sub 3 as a percentage of the total. If they had 6 or 8 pens then fair enough but if you only have three then having one devoted to sub 3 would be out of proportion. That said more pens and stringent entry checks to the pens would be great.

(btw I'm merging this with the main Dublin thread)
