I was wondering what the process is for the start of the Dublin Marathon. I am hoping to run a sub 3 and am worried about been stuck behind thousands of runners and finding myself a few minutes off schedule after a the first 2 or 3mls. The only thing I saw was on the entry form where you could list whether or not you were sub 3:30 or not.
I have ran Boston before and there you have corals where you are positioned based on your predicted time (or number which is issued to you based on previous time).
Get there early and as close to the front as you can. On past experience, a lot of people don't pay too much attention to the recommended starting areas.

My training plan which i took from Irish runner magazine has me down for 18 miles easy this weekend. Is this madness considering the big day is less than 2 weeks away? or should i run it nice and easy (8 minute miles). Or try for race pace (7 minutes)?

    Hi Smmoore79

The thing to remember is a marathon is 26 miles. So 18 should be easy in comparison. Why don't you run 34 this weekend instead. That way when it comes to doing the marathon it will seem much easier, it'll be like stopping with 8 miles left! That's what all the top Olympic athletes do. I read it in a magazine. Also go for race pace. At the very least. You don't think when Tiger Woods practices he aims for bogeys all the way around, do you?

    Hope this helps!

This post had me in stitches, couldn't be for real!

In case it was serious most people running the Dublin Marathon arent Olympic athletes so thats not really relevant.

Last year they had 2 pens is I remember correctly sub 4.00 and over 4.00. They coloured your number according to what pen you were in

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,170 ✭✭✭Hard Worker

Each mile is marked and every 5K plus the half way mark.
The three start pens are colour coded, so you will have to go to your correct pen.

With the "Big Day" fast approaching and final arrangements being made, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced (Italian?) restaurant in the vicinity of the RDS (well walking distance anyway) where a couple of fellas could get some pasta down their throats?
As this will be a purely functional meal, it can be the Ryanair of restaurants (no frills etc.)

I'm pretty sure you can get plates of pasta at the expo. Definitely functional and no frills about it either. Caveat. I never tried it myself.

Anyone know if there is Km markers or is it just miles?

Although alot easier to count to 26 its easier to run 42km than 26miles. Especially with a garmin. Easier to run 5 min km than an 8 min mile. Never thought i would say that,

Last weekend of proper training guys:)

After running a 20miler in 2.40 then the Dublin Half Marathon in 1.29 was sure I would reach my goal of sub 3.30 for my first marathon but IT Band decided to cause me problems immediately afer the Half:mad::mad:

Looks like even making it to the start line seems in doubt now:mad::mad: Really Heartbreaking

    Hope everyones training goes well

Hey that's a really cool site.
And he seems to be quite accurate.
So for the 26th we can expect rain in Kerry/Limerick/Tipperary but in Dublin it will be dry?

Anyone got any good transport/parking tips for DCM day?

Had thought I'd take DART from Malahide but according to web time table first one doesn't leave there till 9AM. Does anyone know if there are any special trains running?

Otherwise I'll have to drive in to the city, in which case I don't want to end up walking too far. Is there any convenient parking that can actually be reached on race day with all the barriers and restrictions?
