Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Its between Vidic and Gerrard imo.

Personally as a liverpool fan id give it to Vidic,he has been immense.

Think it was marcotti that said the two foreigners(carvallho and vidic)make the two english guys look good.Hard to argue with that.

    Honourable mentions for Cahill,Alonso,Ireland,Young.

**** me this Vidic love in is a little intense.

it is strange that people are ignoring his poor form already this season.

I've been racking my brains, I can think of only 2 maybe 3 games he has not been up to standard. What run of poor form are you talking about?

Add to that Young has only one more goal than him in the league.

dont worry Boggles, personally i think a lot of people are over-rating Young this season too! ;)

Both are excellent players and deserve to be nominated for the award, but neither are "run-away" winners anymore than Gerrard or Carrick are.

Vidic has put in way more MOTM and vital performances than Gerrard, Carrick, Young, Eddie McGoldrick or any other random name you wanna put in there.

Its all about opinions to a certain extent lads... Ronaldo, Alonso, Giggs? What next - Riera, Robbie Keane, Eboue?

My top 2 would be Vidic and Gerrard.

Deco would have got it but the damn temperature dropped. :pac:

Would be hilarious if Robbie Keane bagged some ridiculous amount of goals between now and end of the season and grabbed the award!

lol is all I can say to that. Giggs has been ok, average. Giving him player of the year would be an insult to the years of performances where he actually deserved it.

Vidic may well get player of the year, but people forget that before the Arsenal game, Vidic was pretty sub-par. Since then he's been absolutely fantastic, but people tend to forget these things. I don't think any United player has played particuarly well so far this season imo.

Alonso has been good, but not spectacular. He gets a lot of praise because he's significantly upped his game from the previous 2 seasons, but he's still got another level to go imo.

For me, the stand out performer of the season so far, by imo some distance, is Ashley Young. He has been outstanding, in a team that are not of the same quality as United's or Liverpools, and has been absolutely scintilating. I really think he deserves it.

    Gareth Barry.

    Gareth Barry.

Yeah, he's been having a good season alright. When I saw this thread though, Ashley Young was the first player I thought of.

I wouldn't argue with Vidic for the award thought, he has been immense for Utd, and not just this season. Arguably their best player.

I agree, my first choice would be Vidic, but if it's true that he was not great early on, like some have said, GB would get my nod. Instrumental to everything that happens on the pitch at Villa, bit of a Roy Keane for them. And the fact that they are probably performing better in relation to expectations than anyone else, strengthens his shout IMO.

Didn't Ronaldo have a fairly quiet start last year that included a red card and then missing three games because of it.

Vidic should win it. Let Young take the young players award (is he still eligable?)

IMO A. Young hasn't even been Villa's best player this year - Petrov has.

Think its under 23 not 23 and under..far as i know anyway..And Young is 23 now..I pursume theres a date like the 1st of jan or your age at the start of the season or something

Do my eyes deceive me?

Just because none of them has scored over 20 goals doesn't mean they're not playing superbly.

The great thing about this season is that it is more of a team effort. We started slowly but as the season has progressed, the plyers have got better and better. Some top performers this season (for United and the PL); Van der Sar, Evra, Vidic/Rio, Evans, Rafael (only 18 years old), Michael Carrick (best midfielder in the league this season), Ryan Giggs (some incredible performances), Ronaldo (around 10 or 11 goals in the league).

Notice I have included no strikers in their because none of them has reached the level of the above. yet we are top of the league looking to win 5 trophies.

Vidic is a shoo in btw.

Giggs has been excellent over the past month or so, but overall he's been average. Look through the United thread and you'll see that he's basically been ripped apart in a lot of post-match analysis. That said, I'd like to see him win it, and, if he keeps up his good form for the rest of the season, he could well win it. If we're talking United players, I'd plump for Vidic or Carrick before Giggs, though.

Those are without a doubt our top performaners, but in all honestly, except for Vidic (who has poor imo for the first ten games) and Carrick (who has also had a dodgy patch), the United team has been a team effort, with no real stand out performers. Even our defensive record, it has been a team effort, with lots of different players playing in the back line.

No United player imo has hit the heights of some of the Barca players this year for example, Messi and Xavi for example. But the season is still young :)

Yep, totally agree. It says a lot really in terms of the squad's ability to churn out results. United have gotten results out of moments of individual magic, when performances - generally - haven't reached the ruthlessness of last season.

I expect Vidic to win POTY atm
Young deserves it just as much imo
strangley Villa's POTY may be Petrov but he could be like Alonso seemingly brilliant as he was cack for a while.

I expect Agbonlahor to win the YPOTY
I think S.Ireland deserves to win it atm

Petrov hasn't been Villa's player at all. Young has, by a good way. Petrov has just been a massive massive improvement on last season.

if vidic doesn't win it unanimously some people need some serious kicking in the nuts. not even a contest the way he's played - especially in the last 2/3 months.

giggs for some lifetime achievement thing, yes maybe, but player of the season would be the ultimate nostalgia award. he might scrape into the top 10 this season at a push imo.
