    No; Kilbarron has no graves.

I know I have walked there. But it eludes me....

    St Catherine's at Killybegs?

Or that wee one between Ballyshannon and Donegal?

    Afraid not, guess again :D

If those are snowdrops, is it one on the road north towards.... I got lost on day taking a detour back from Rathmullen so no idea where it was but would love to know. I was heading back towards Ramelton and Letterkenny so this may well be it?

It was carpeted with snowdrops. Ash Wednesday that was.

Nope; checked my own photos and I guess not..

NB I am researching for a book on Celtic and Monastic Donegal and would be glad of any input. Thank you

Yes, your right. Its Killydonnell Friary on the old Letterkenny-Ramelton road, not too far from Castlegrove Hs.

    well done.:D

The photos above were taken on Friday last with a camera phone and are of poor quality. If you go onto Flickr.com, and search for Killydonnell, there are some lovely photos.

I did not see that sign; am wondering if it is the one I meant.

If not I must find this one!

    Thank you.

Here is one of the photos I took there; but there was no car park.

The ruins were behind me when I took this. I think it was before Ramelton anyways as I came south.

It looked like an old Church.

Not while sure where that is but its defo not killydonnell,it seems to be looking at inch island, the thing thats trrowing me off is the sand, no sand down near killydonnel its a rocky shore, not sandy, i'll have a 'gleek' at an ordnance survey map i have of the area they are usuall good for locating these kinda places if you know roughly where it is.

No; I just checked Killydonnell as that says it is down a lane. This was right at the side of the road.
Behind a wall so can easily miss it.

It was a day I just drove round:)

I may have crossed from Carrowkeel back to the road between Rathmullan and Ramelton; so it would have been along that stretch between where that road cuts in and Ramelton.

Here is another photo; the whole graveyard was thick with snowdrops.

    Hmmm,

    Carrowkeel, Kerrykeel, Quigley's Point.

    Nuke them all.

    Problem solved.

    :)

I have to admit that Rathmullen , Portsalon and Quigleys' Point were very disappointing after the web write- ups.

I also once more found myself on the kind of coastal mountain road that gives me the terrors.

Glengesh, Mamroe.. and Slieve League have competition.

    Yeah I noticed that ;)

Still, I'd be nice to figure it out. Someone must know the place?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,676 ✭✭✭✭smashey

From the towns mentioned, I think it's the Atlantic drive? between Rathmullen and Portsalon. The road over the mountain that makes for a great rally stage.

    Somewhere over Knocalla?

I think there's an old cemetery somewhere in Killygarvan?

I'm getting my Sundays off again in a few weeks - touring season will start then :)

That's it, Knockalla. I couldn't remember the name earlier. It is spectacular on a good day.

Sorella's photo istaken in a graveyard the other side of the Kinnegar beach outside Rathmullan. Some very old headstones about it.
