Banking Question

I have a some money in one of our banks. Its not a lot but its enough to have me worry that if the banks do collapse is my money secure. Or would i be better and doing what people in the last fall did and put it under the mattress? Mod if this question isint in the right forum please fell free to move it or rederict it.
