Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Played the demo and was unbelievably underwhelmed tbh. I was a massive fan of RE4 on the Gamecube.

I'm reading this a lot. What improvements were expecting that you didn't get??

The thing is, I'm finding it hard to put my finger on it but I have a few thoughts. I didn't think the graphics were all that great which was a major disappointment. Also, the choice of environment doesn't help you feel like you're playing a RE game. It's sunny lol.

I'm not saying I won't eventually buy it, but I thought I'd be way more excited at this point.

Why not stick to what's good?

RE4 was an amazing game and I'm sure that RE5 will live up to the hype. I don't know what people were expecting from RE5 but I sure wasn't expecting it to be SO much different from how RE4 played on the GC.

I know people like the controls of RE4 on the GC but you will just have to adapt to the controls and get used to them.

I read a review of the full game it got 81% they said it was a huge dissapiontment in single player that the bird with you is retarded and allways getting killed and if you give her 2 guns she allways picks the worst one. But it says a lot of its problems dont affect the co-op mode.

But still 81% for a game in the climate of ridiculously high scores for any half way decent game is poor

Thats very disappointing, thought this game would get 90%+ across the board. Still, gonna wait for a few more reviews. Will probably get it anyway.

It's good alright but I think they may be forcing it a bit too much to remain different. RE4 was a completely different game than its predecessors but that evolution felt more natural compared with the gap between 4 and 5.
As someone mentioned earlier it is hard to get that classic RE experience when its sunny. RE4 maintained that survival horror atmosphere while blending in nice elements of a purely action orientated game. The fifth installment seems to be leaning more and more toward the action side of things this time around.
Although in saying that I will wait to play the full game before passing any type of solid criticism.

This will be very much a wait and see since i might be loosing my job in 2 months all games now are going to have to be thought about carefully !!

I heard the trailer got slammed by some group who said that it was racist because it showed "a white protagonist shooting black zombies in an african village"
I will be getting this game though,The gameplay looks great along with the visual.

could have sworn there were some asians in there too. Maybe he's an equal opportunities racialist?

All those zombies look the same.....

And yet in all the other res evil games you can go around shooting white zombies, (could this also not be considered racist in the most ridiculous way) but 'oh no' you can't shoot black zombies. It would realy make sense to make all the african population in the game suddenly white. wow thats also not 'racist'. Excuse all the sacarsm :P

The original trailer (and game too apparently) had all black "zombies" but because of complaints they added more of an ethnic variation.

Maybe they're tourists in the wrong place at the wrong time......

Was a bit disappointed in the demo to be honest. Purely because of the online co-op crap emphasis that's now being put on games by developers.

Resident Evil was always (mostly) about being isolated. Why do we need Sheva to follow us around and provide ammo and high fives etc.

  • Not good news i spotted here. Pretty much saying first playthrough will be way shoter than res 4 :/

    Awesome

I was wondering about the game length if it was heavily pushed for co-op, the 20 hours or so that RE4 would take is too long. As long as its fun and gives some good set-pieces I wont be sad, better a short awesome game than a dull dragged out mediocre game.

And tried the demo with the RE4 control layout and increased aiming speed, plays a lot better. Though will need to find someone to play online with, the AI foe Sheva is horrible.

Did I just see cattle prod / longbow weapon achievements. :D awesome.

Agree with you there, all she did was walk around aimlessly and she kept nicking items just as I was reaching for them myself. Even worse than Dom in Gears 1 (never thought I'd hear myself saying that )

Its not just that, she spam fire at a single enemy I can headshot and then melee action to the ground and stomp on.

Fighting a boss from 2 different points in co-op is great, 1 distracts while the other relocates, reverse and repeat. With Sheva, she follows like a sick puppy and generally gets insta-killed as she waits till I move far enough away before moving, usually as I am running from chainsaw man standing 5 foot away.

20 hrs!!!!, I finished it in about 12hrs and that was taking my sweet time. In one of the reviews for Res 5 they said they finished it on Normal single player in 4 and half hours not including cut scenes of which there is 80 mins worth and they were not trying to do a speed run, just a standard first time play through.

In co-op they think you might finish it in 4 hrs or less!!. I'm not paying full price for a game I can finish in less than 10 hours.

I'm finding more and more that I just don't have the time to complete games that are too long (not saying 20 hours is too long, or 12 for that matter). Brevity can be a good thing, the replay value in this will be beating it on Professional difficulty, possibly online with a friend. Also, the mercenaries mode!

Anyone know if res4 was released on the original xbox ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,529 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

No. RE4 was only released on the Gamecube, PS2, Wii and PC.

I just finished a Professional playthrough of 4 in 15 hours, also taking my sweet time. As Burning Eclipse said, Mercenaries will add a huge amount of playtime. The pre-4 games lasted about 4-5 hours, so it's all good. Capcom games demand multiple playthroughs! Ah, my younger days of speed running...

Yeah I remember the speed runs in Res 2 for both charaters getting A and B sides of the story to unlock the special items and the spec ops guy. Those were the days.

Got a double discount of www.thehut.com and got RE5 for 32euro delivered.

Can't go wrong at that price, although after playing the demo I was a little underwhelmed.

And yeah, it's not black only "ganados" anymore(they're not zombies), in the demo I spotted white, Indian, and Chinese persons!

Weren't practically all the vampires in the first Blade movie white? Did anyone give a sh1t? no

Should people give a sh1t that all the bad guys were orginally black in RE5? of course not.
But it just goes to show that there's different rules for racism when whites are the main characters as opposed to black.

To be honest, I actually speedran through RE2 a few weeks ago. I played through Claire A in 3 hours 20 minutes, reading all the files and watching all the cutscenes. Not an amazing time, but I got an A rank. Then I played through Leon B in 2 hours and 9 minutes . I didn't think I was going that fast, I watched all the cutscenes and wasted a few minutes! A testament to my wasted childhood...
