Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just had a quick flick through the Ministry Annual 2009 (Don't worry i did not buy it) and obviously I was not expecting much, but honestly I was truly shocked at how it was full of complete and utter ****. I mean some really embarrassingly bad tracks.

Ok I know Ministry is far from a respected music outlet, but there was one day when they had some decent stuff - but they seem to not care and just throw out cheesey driblle to nackeres who don't know any better...

What is it with them, you'd think someone in the company had some self respect...

    wtf?

I think they always were very much on the crap/commercial side of dance music and really just a dance-money-making machine. Sure they even had their own branded range of consumer electronics for a while, including MP3 players, hi-fi systems etc... which were all rubbish.

Any self respecting clubber who knows the score should avoid these corporate monkeys at all costs, the same goes for any of the big clubs/promoters who mass market and churn out cheesy rubbish several times a year, you only have to look at the latest Ministry Of Sound Album "Rave Anthems" unbelievable, the majority of the tracks are the same old tunes they have churned out year after year after year yet there's always people gullible enough to buy these compilations, unbelievable, the most sickening thing is that back in the day MOS had no time for the underground Rave scene and now they are using old skool to make £££€€€€€€ because the know it sells amongst some people!!!

Avoid these muppets and keep it underground.;)

They actually had a series out called "Sessions" and there were some pretty good stuff on there, but it seems that everything else is low quality super cheesey crap.

Do they really sell so much more of that crap than anything decent, that its worth disregarding any reputation in the industry?

The Ministry Of Sound like all big corporate clubs thesedays only care about making as much £££€€€ as possible and will mass market compilations with obvious big tunes, very occasionaly they will come out and release a half decent compilation to try and regain some respect amongst genuine clubbers but anyone who knows the score gives them a wide berth, sure i remember when Jungle went overground in the mid 1990's everyone (not in backward Ireland obviously) was into it and they were one of the first to jump on the bandwagon despite never even having a Jungle Rave in the MOS itself, unreal!

It's a shame in a way as it's a decent club with an amazing sound system, but as i said they really don't have any other interest in dance music asides from making money, they have jumped on every single bandwagon there has been in dance music and will continue to do so.

meh. they're a publicly traded company which is a terrible situation imo for a label to be in.
They went some through some serious financial trouble around the time of the millenium too iirc.
Oh and they were set up by that Lord something or other (big property developer in England)'s son.

Publicly traded company set up by an aristocrat's son along with his 'cool music mates' is a recipe for disaster tbh. Hence the reason MOS have to put out absolute rubbish all the time to make a profit.

Oh and if I remember correctly, Jonny was praising Hed Kandi a while back. Hed Kandi is owned by MOS.

Didn't MoS come out the free party scene? - i'd met a disgruntled label owner who had said that he was narked at the fact that they'd set up MoS in the way it works currently and steered away from their roots... could all be bull tho.

Their open label had a couple of good tunes on it, though MoS represents everything that is wrong with dance

The second CD in this collection wasn't a bad effort, think it was done after a poll on the best tune year by year, so had Leftfield, Orbital, Lennie de Ice etc. But trancey mind.

I used to buy the Annuals back in they day, good round up to the year but since about 02 they have been rubbish. I did like the Anthems I and II records they put out a while ago with all the < 2000s stuff though.

Apart from the UK where else did it go overground?

Ireland is hardly backward because Jungle never went overground, it's quite a specialist scene and was always a UK thing.

As for the MoS, Zascar are you really that surprised with the recent content? The Annuals went sh1t years ago and are not relevant anymore. MoS is a brand and is just there to make money. The fact that they advertise during prime time tv shows proves this point.

Once dance got big the MoS was probably the first to jump in and make the big bucks. Fairplay to them I say. So what if they released sh1te, you don't have to buy it.

Their offshoot labels had some really decent and relative releases, especially OPEN. So amazing relases on that label actually. Paperclip People, François K, Doi-Oing, Green Velvet, Mister Monday all off the top of my head.

They're pretty big names. Carl Craig ffs - say they're all pissed to be associated with MOS. Saw Beyer, and (correct me if I'm wrong) radio salev played in Mos in London a while back - still a muck annual and label though and the soundtrack to a San Antonio scum holiday

I have to correct you, ministry of sound hosted a night called A.W.O.L.on Thursday nights back in the mid 90's,Kenny Ken was one of the residents.

A.W.O.L. stood for a way of life.
