We all have a few sad songs we like to listen to when we're feeling down in ourselves at one stage or another. What are yours and why?

A few of mine would be..

    The Misery by Sonata Arctica

    Safe Home by Anthrax

Prisoner of Your Eyes by Judas Priest

    Still Loving You by Scorpions

    How about you lot?

If you want sad songs look no further than Doom metal, a genre dedicated to them :)

Warning - Watching from a Distance (The song, and pretty much the whole album too)
    Tristitia - When Tears Cry
Avernus - An Endless Sea of Evening
Evergrey - When the Walls Go Down (Not a doom band, but a very moving song)
Fear of Eternity - Staring at the Dark (Although the whole 'Spirit of Sorrow' album would be very depressing [and excellent])
Mourning Beloveth - It Almost Looked Human (Irish Doom, excellent)

The Needle and the Damage done - Neil Young
    Fade to Black - Metallica....

Also most of muse's stuff... they constantly sound like they're on the back of a trailer full of sausages playing with a pack of hungry wolves/rotweillers chasing after them... with a few million tonnes of hot lava spilling after them... with a mushroom cloud from an atomic bomb on the horizon.... and all that and they've just realised they're about to be driven overthe edge of a cliff....

    Yep Muse are pretty sad

    Undertow - Pain of Salvation
    Talullah - Sonata Arctica
Map of the Problamatique - Muse
    Fade to Black - Metallica
    Day 3: Pain - Ayreon

    :(

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Great choice! That's a really emotional song. Evergrey are a band I always forget about but they've got some very good albums.

Sonic Youth's cover of The Carpenters' 'Superstar'.

    Hole's 'Northern Star'.

Agree with DazMarz about 'Who Wants To Love Forever', 'Still in Love With You' and 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn'.

Also +1 to Black NG-60-90 on 'Down in a Hole' and 'Lover, You Should Have Come Over'.

Starflake's choice 'The Needle and the Damage Done' would be my ultimate sad song.
