Post your worst team that has played in the premiership (based only on their performances in the premiership!)

EDIT: Seems I missed some obvious players........I'll re-edit when I actually put some more effort it as I put this together in like two mins! :)

seems to me you only watch Man U and Liverpool. I could still pick holes on your selections all day but take Lucas for example.

7 games this season you could have judged him.

    0-0 Villa - solid
1-0 Pompey - very good game
    0-0 Fulham - poor game
    1-1 Arsenal - solid
    5-1 Newcastle - outstanding
    0-0 Stoke - hid a little
1-1 Wigan - solid, terrible penalty.

He's the best you can come up with to fill your centre-mid spot?

I seriously don't rate Lucas. He annoys me to watch, maybe there has been worst in the past but he seriously pisses me off the amount of possession he wastes. As for the united thing....I support them so I tend to pick their players over others as I have seen more of them in action.

Um... the one thing Lucas doesn't do is waste possession.

No way Voronin is one of the worst Premiership players ever.

Willaim Prunier for Utd and Titi Camara for Liverpool are glaring ommisions

Roy Carroll, are you for real ? I cant recall him being bad for United.

Lads, anyone who has there XI without George Weah's "cousin" who got 10 mins for Southampton is really not trying hard enough.

How about the Sunderland team of 05/06 who got relegated with the lowest points tally in premiership history (15 points).

i thought derby beat them on that? 11 points wasnt it?

just checked, yup. 11 points in the 07/08 season is the lowest ever

Records are made to be broken I suppose.

I wonder if a team could ever manage to do a whole season without a victory. That should be the next milestone to aim for.

    Take note Sunderland, Derby.

Ali Dia, signed by Souness for Southampton, disaster.

    Sunderland or Derby...?

    Iffy 4-2-4 formation

GK -- That Greek dude that Alain Perrin had playing for Pompey a few years back, he was a bit of a puddin. Can't remember his name.

LB -- Michael Frontzeck, terrible terrible player, one of the worst I've seen pull on a City shirt, and trust me, there have been plenty of those

    CB -- Prunier
CB -- Piechnic (sp) (Liverpool flop)

RB -- Laurent Charvet, another shocker of a full back to have donned the city shirt. And he cost 1.5m when that actually meant something to City!

MF -- Khali Fadiga, one of Notlobs many freebies who didn't quite work out.

    MF -- Istvan Kostma

    FW -- Marco Boogers. Nutter.

FW -- Mario Lardel. Scored millions of goals in Porto and Turkey. At Bolton probaly spent his time drinking Porto and eating Turkey.

FW -- Steve Marlet. Was probably worse strikers but he cost Fulham £11.5m. (Pips Sergui Rebrov for "most over priced Carlos Kickaball" position)

FW -- Javi Moreno. I remember the week he signed for Notlob I put him straight into my Fantasy team and gave him the armband. In hindsight, not the cleverest move.

To be fair, Fadiga wasn't the worst just had a dodge ticker.

    Steve Marlet was how much?!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,382 ✭✭✭Juan Pablo

I cannot believe I forgot Chistian Negouai. Three minutes of Premier league football, sent off after coming on as a sub against Everton. Only man to ever have had negative fantasty football points for a season? He can take Fadigas place. And wear the armband. Keegan hailed him as his most exciting signing ever. lol.

Post your worst team that has played in the premiership (based only on their performances in the premiership!) Mine is:

    Roy Caroll

    ----Abel Xavier----Jean-Alain Boumsong----Titus Bramble----Djimi Traore(c)

    Voronin
    Jordi Cruyff
    Lucas
    Juan Veron

    Diego Forlan
    Lee Dong-Gook

    SUBS:

    Massimo Tiabi
    Roque Junior
    Pascal Cygan
    Djemba-Djemba
    Luke Chadwick
    David Bellion
I'd back that team to avoid the drop with a half decent manager.
That would not be even close to a Premiership worst 11.

absolutely midtable madness that side, Voronin love him or hate him is a decent striker - just maybe not anthing like top class standard.
Lucas is a ridiculously hard done by young midefielder who has so much potential.
Veron and Forlan just never really settled into the English game but were both still good players.
Abel Xavier was a mixed bag but nowhere near a worst 11.

I thought you would have had more complaints about this sort of thread.

Or is it only Irish players' feelings we aren't allowed hurt?

    LOL nicely put!

The list on that site is well written, an enjoyable read. I never get tired of reading the Ali Dia story :D
Despite his patent lack of footballing ability, I actually ummed and arred as to whether Ali Dia should be included on this site.

My problem with Dia is that unlike other rubbish footballers he hasn't suffered the slow torture of ritual, weekly humiliation. Instead, he waltzed in to Southampton, put in 52 minutes of unrivalled ****ness, and then, like Kaiser Soze, was gone (that is if you discount a brief stint in Gravesend's stiffs).

For those unfamiliar with the story, Dia was perhaps football's greatest ever bluffer. Despite having no footballing pedigree whatsoever, he persuaded his agent (why he had an agent is a mute point that has never been satisfactorily explained) to ring the Saints claiming that he was George Weah's more talented cousin.

Glancing at a squad that included Neil Heaney, Robbie Slater and Ulrich van Gobbel, then Saints boss Graeme Souness concluded that maybe he could do with a potential World Player of the Year.

In fact, he was so impressed with Dia's invented CV that he decided to forgo with the usual trials and tests and instead put his new striker straight into the squad to face mighty (at least they were then) Leeds United. As you do.

Half an hour into the game, the inevitable happened as Matt Le Tissier limped off. Souness looked at his subs - Ken Monkou, Neil Maddison, Robbie Slater and the untried Dia - and weighed up who to bring on. It wasn't a tough choice.

Dia made an instant impression, miscontrolling a simple pass, bumping into Egil Ostenstad and generally making a tit of himself. It says much that Dia, aged 20, was thoroughly outshone by Ian Rush despite the Leeds striker being a good five years past his sell by date.

Amazingly Souness failed to do the decent thing by putting Dia out of his misery at half time and so the circus lasted until the 82nd minute. In the whole of the second half, Dia touched the ball at most three times - his teammates having quickly realised that playing with 10 men was the safer option.

And finally it was all over. To Dia's credit, the score was only 1-0 to Leeds when he departed, a score that doubled within a minute of him taking his place on the bench.

However, Souness had seen enough. Dia's contract was promptly terminated and by the time of Southampton's next Premiership match a a new forward had been brought in from the reserves as forward cover.

Steve Basham - a much safer bet indeed.

Constantino Chalkias. To be fair, he cost us about 2% of what Spurs paid for Gomes and he was no worse. No better granted, but certainly no worse.
How can you have a worse team without honourable mention for Djimi Traore?...He just can't, He just can't, he just can't control his feet.

I also feel John O'Shea should be in this team. He is awful but somehow, by the grace of god or something, he manages to play for the European champions:confused:

William Prunier, he was funny. Not sure how many games he played, but I remember seeing one game and it was the worst performance of any player I've ever seen.

    Solid effort!!

Though Camara scored nine goals in a single season at Liverpool - plenty worse strikers to choose from. And Sinclair (lol own goals aside) was a solid defender in a team that didn't concede much at the time.

But overall, your team is pretty miserable, good job.
