    Hi all,

I have a hermann tortoise approx 6mths now. He is almost 2 years old.
He is normally quite outgoing, running around and climbing on his things.
But the last 3-4 days he`s been sleeping alot and not eating at all which is worrying.
As I said I only have him 6 months so am new to this and would be grateful of any information you might have.
Also could anyone recommend a good vet that specialises in reptiles around the Dublin 5 area or anywhere on the northside.

    Thanks for your help..

John Bainbridge Of Argyle and Bainbridge in Dundrum is, from what I have heard from people who keep reptiles, to be the only man for the job (I'll no longer be recommending a vet in Bray).

I can't help with the other stuff as frankly, I have no experience.

Seconded. Bainbridge is top man and he's around a long long time too.
For the OP: you haven't really given much information on your tortoise setup or diet or hibernation ? how can people help if they have no information ......

your tortoise may be a bit cold , or he could have a build up uric acid , give him a bath and wait for him to go to the loo and clean out his system

I agree, give him a 15 minute soak and see if that makes him more active, My smaller tort (Smiff) needs a warm soak every 2 or 3 days to keep him active, otherwise he'll sleep most of the time.

Bring the animal to the vet! That's what they are for. If you can't justify spending the money on bringing the animal to the vet because it sleeps a lot, bring it for a general check-up and mention it to the vet while you are there.

There is nobody here who can give you a magic answer on this one. No matter how experienced they are, they cannot see the animal and do tests on it, which is the best way to diagnose a problem. Only a vet specialising in reptiles can.
