    Just heard that, well remember being so impressed by his and his families fortitude when Damburst of Dreams got published.

    Very sad news. He was a bit of a genius, to put it mildly. Met him many years ago when i was in the CRC and he was back visiting (must have been after the Whitbread award).

    Must dig up Under The Eye Of The Clock, which is somewhere in the house and start rereading it

    Never read any of his stuff and had all but forgotten about him but the clips of him on friday's news brought back memories of the Eighties and how he gave the nation a bit of a lift. Better see if the local library has a copy of Under The Eye Of The Clock
