Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hello there, now from what I have read you seem to be a knowledgeable bunch so here is my question. My friend and I are attempting to purchase a campervan and then live and travel in it. We were looking in the UK unfortunately no one here will insure us. A.because we are only 20 years old and B.because we are not permanent UK residents. Now I was wondering if anyone out there knew of any companies that might or if it would be possible to buy and insure elsewhere. I appreciate in advance any advice anyone might be able to leave. Thanks!
Ps we were planning on staying for a year if that makes a difference.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think your snookered... Your age will always be against you and the non resident bit too!!

Do you have relatives or good friends resident in UK or here? Only possible way round it and I stress possible would be for a relative to buy and insure for you as you as named driver. This would have its own problems in the event of a claim....... The UK has much more choice of insurers, searching may find one that'll insure you,you just need the address then..

An alternative would be to buy a commerial van and rough it with mattress, camping stove, porta potty etc.I did it for years before getting a"proper mh" and had great fun.

Good luck and enjoy your years travel,I so wish I was travelling again:(

Ireland is a terrible country for car insurance, very expensive for anyone under 25 compared to other countries. Young people here usually end up limited to driving very small low powered cars because they're somehow viewed as safer, even though hundreds still get killed in their little tin cans every year as it's not cars that crash cars, it's people and their behaviour and attitudes

silly maybe, but have you tried the Canadian Embassy in London for info ? Someone might have done this/similar, before.

Failing that, try maybe doing it out of Germany - more enlightened insurers there. Again, Canadian Embassy might be a good bet for info.

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Try Australia House in London. I remember this problem regularly cropping up before for Aussies wishing to travel Europe. I can't remember the solution (though there was one), but Australia House will surely pput you right.
If you do get it, please let us know here as it is regularly asked.
