    Metallica - The 'Black' album

2 fantastic albums here, I'd add them both to my earlier list.

I acually can't believe no-one has mentioned 4 albums that changed my life-

    RHCP- Blood Sugar Sex Magik
    The Clash - London Calling
Public Enemy- Takes a Nation of millions to hold us back

and, of courese, possibly the greatest album to ever reach no1:

    Micheal Jackson - BAD

Just listened to RHCP - Blood Sugar Sex Magik today. What a fantastic album and the lyrics are interesting too!

New Order - Substance. I know it consists of all their singles up to 1987 (including b-sides), but I just think it's an amazing album.

    Others include:
    White Stripes - Elephant
    Breeders - Last Splash
    Metallica - Ride the Lightning

Adore by the Smashing Pumpkins, as mentioned earlier, is one for me, and it doesn't come up enough in these threads. I don't mean to do a whole "Hurr, I'm more indie than u!" thing, but dammit, that album is very underrated.

Funeral by Arcade Fire is about as perfect as it gets, IMHO.

Oh, and I confess, before God and all, I never skip a track on Hot Fuss. The Killers were good once, I don't care what anyone says.

Master Of Puppets by Metallica, or Appetite For Destruction by GnR.

It's embarrassing to like the Killers now? I honestly can't keep up with the snobbery.

I liked the killers until this symbolic piece of writing:
    And I'm on my knees
    Looking for the answer
    Are we human?
    Or are we dancers?

    Absolutely atrocious!

On the band's official website, the biography section states that Flowers is singing "Are we human, or are we dancer?" and also says that the lyrics were inspired by a disparaging comment made by Hunter S. Thompson.[9] In an interview with Rolling Stone, Flowers said that he was irritated over the confusion about the lyric and also that fans were unhappy with the song's dance beat: "It's supposed to be a dance song, [the beat] goes with the chorus...If you can't put that together, you're an idiot. I just don't get why there's a confusion about it."

Brandon Flowers just called you an idiot.

weezer - blue album (pinkerton is my favourite but blue album is more accessible).

jimmy eat world - clarity (bleed american is a good album but it's pale compared to clarity).

biffy clyro - vertigo of bliss.

    nirvana - in utero.

frightened rabbit - midnight organ fight.

sufjan stevens - come on and feel the illinoise.

final fantasy - has a good home.

Pink Floyd-DSOTM and pretty much anything by Radiohead, Arcade Fire, or Muse. I also agree that The Killers where good once before they succumbed to the watered-down, radio friendly "Electro Pop" type of music that sells well to the teenage population

I don't really care for what he thinks to be honest!
We're raising a generation of dancers

I can really see what he was going for now, thanks for that

    Feck!

    Pet Sounds - Beach Boys

final fantasy - has a good home.

I cannot believe I forgot this one.

I will furthermore suggest Beirut's Gulag Orkestar.

Somebody gave me Bell Orchestre's Recording a Tape The Colour Of Light ages ago, and it's good enough to overcome it's achingly pretentious title and stupid cover. Perfect from start to finish.

Brandon Flowers is an idiot who writes nonsensical lyrics and sings them in the most awful smug voice over boring music.

I love Garbage but that's probably my least favourite album by them. It definitely has some class tracks though ("Push It" never fails to thrill me.)
My favourite album by them is probably their least loved, beautifulgarbage. I would love to include it but unfortunately it's not quite "near perfect" enough.

Woohoo - another Adore lover! It always amazes me how that album never gets the acclaim it deserves.
I actually bought Funeral recently, I've been meaning to get it for ages. Will listen to it properly sometime during the week.

Slightly off topic, but one thing I think that polishes Funeral's overall perfection for me is the packaging. The way forward for old-fashioned music releases is, I think, to make sure that the physical object is something worth owning. I can't think of a better example of that than Funeral, it's a perfect compliment to the music on the disc. In Rainbows, for all it's pay-what-you-want hype, did a fantastic job of it too.

I don't know how bands can still justify whacking a disc into a jewel case and expecting to charge upwards of twenty euro for it.
