Ping question

    I've two windows machines in the same workgroup. If I ping one machine from the other by machine name I get the ip address resolved but the ping request times out. ie.

    ping machinename

    pinging machinename [192.168.etc] with 32 bytes...

    Request timed out.
    ...
    ...
    ...

    What could be causing that?

    Edit: ping ipaddress fails too.
