Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

Being new to photography as a hobby, I was wondering why is it that pix.ie is so popular with members here on photography group on boards.ie? Does it offer anything above and beyond flickr?

    ta!

It's irish based, nice members, helpfull support,no weird perves that are on flickr, you ask for something new and they try their best to do it for you,Much more space per month than the free flickr account gives you

It's just a nicer feeling place imo

I prefer Pix.ie because the default viewing size is the handy 800 pixels wide and I like the look of it also.

    Not confined to 3 folders
    Nicer looking website
    No annoying AWARDS (comments)
    & its Irish !
& I think Flickr (ordinary acc) is limited to 200 pics !

    /can I be a pro now, pleeese :p

It is free and developers of the page came to Boards to ask for their input/comments.
And yes, generated code for posting pictures here is BIG advantage.

It would of been a perfect comment if you didn't ask to become pro(which is a flickr term :pac: )

all of the above plus personal attention from the founder / ceo on this forum. post a query on the pix.ie thread and you have the ceo answering within an hour or so.

It's Irish, it works, and has that forum code convenience (you don't even have to select it it's done automatically, that's the kind of attention to detail in usability that really makes it a pleasure to use). There's a really good friendly gang on there too.

If there's one thing this country needs it's to spawn our own innovative enterprises, there's no reason we should need the IDA globetrotting with a begging bowl for FDI or to sheepishly follow others (the man who follows the crowd will get no further than the crowd). We've got talent in spades here and it's up to us to design our destiny.

I've only recently joined up there, but I'm liking it so far. Not limiting to 3 "sets" (unless you go pro on Flickr) is much better. I havent hit the upload limit yet though :D

Support is excellent. I found a bug, emailed them and within 24 hours I had an email back looking for further info on how to reproduce it so they could look into it.

Good customer service a huge thing for me.

Interesting thread because I only joined today after being frustrated by flickr's insistance on only having 3 sets, and iPhoto's insistance to not upload photos into existing sets...

Having joined I find the pix UI much easier to navigate and uploading nice and easy. It's also nice to not have to go through Yahoo to join a service :p

Doesn't have the plug in's (as yet - i understand that there are lots of features in development - not sure if editing is included).

Flickr has plug in's active for editing afaik. Pix.ie is photo storeage and sharing - vanilla flavour but with lots of strong points as referenced in previous posts.

If you want an online editing experience then you could use something like flauntr which is actually not to bad for basics. However it lacks any integration to pix.ie - upload to flauntr, edit, download, and reupload to pix.ie (a bit messy but it works).

I think it would be handier if there were groups that normal plebs like me could access!
