Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Photography Flea Market?

I would like to get your opinions on Photography Flea Market.
The reason is that back home, we have such event twice a year. The venue is booked and if anybody wants to sell any item, they have to pay for a table. And there is also entry fee. That basically covers the costs of renting the place. Few shops that sell second hand photography gear are most active in organising such event. And of course, any company could also buy a table or two to make the most from such opportunity when they got few hundred photographers at one place during one day.
From our photoclub, we always made a list of items and rented one table together, put the prices on and set the "haggle limits" so whoever was at the table was able to sell anything. Such approach could be suitable for example for Irish camera clubs and maybe even for boards.ie.
Another event was a "string gallery competition" - anybody could bring a photo and put it onto a string. Every ticket for entry was also a voting ticket. The visitors just wrote the number of the picture they liked and the picture with the most votes was rewarded later that day.

I would like to get your response if you think that something like that could be interesting even here.

Sounds like a great idea. I'm a big fan of older cameras and general bits and bobs, so would definitely be up for it!

I would love a flea market like that as well, the main raison I go to 'carboot'sales and antique shops is to find some retro and vintage cameras. T would be great going to a place where there's some DSRL stuff as well...

Let us know the date if all would go trough as expected!

I think this is a really great idea too. I'm curious, sNarah, do you have much luck finding old camera stuff in antique shops etc? I've often wondered how much stuff there is floating around in people's attics etc in Ireland.

    Th0nda,
I think this is a super idea. I am a radio ham (radio experimenter) and various radio clubs from around the whole of Ireland have radio rallies which include a junk sale where you can buy and sell your gear. There are trade stands also where major suppliers display their stuff. Manys the bargain can be got at this type of show. And a great place to sell off your surplus gear.

Well there s quit a few old film cameras to be found in "antique" shops, they usually sell all kinds of junk, even seen a few foldable cameras from the 50ies there... There' s on in Carlingford, Co. Louth; which would be the best one I've seen in ages, apart from the fact that he has a little Nazi section which is just weird :p He's loads of old camera's there though!!!

    WW2 Memorabilia? ;-)

That is brilliant idea to get information from people who organise something similar but in other fields of interest. I think I will pursue that course a little more before contacting possibly interested parties.

I spotted 2 or 3 box cameras in Oxfam I think on Great Georges St.

There's an Oly Trip AF in there aswell, the Brownies are a bit boring though :)

There's another place on the same street as Conn's Cameras, it's just past the church on the left if you're going south, it's a doorway that leads down a staircase, with a sign saying "Everything 35 Euro", and the cameras are at the end of the room, up on a wardrobe. You'd never know what you'd find in there, nevermind what works in there!

Seems like a good idea to me if you can get enough people interested.

DCC has an annual auction, which is sort of like this. Members bring in items they want to sell & set a reserve. We try to get an Auctioneer that has a sense of humor to make it a fun night.

I have to say though, those charity shops have the stupidest policies ever. Most have this thing whereby if they have something in the window, they'll sell it on saturday morning. Not before. There was a brace of Rangefinders on sale in the Oxfam or SVP in rathmines ages ago and I went in to buy them. No dice. I even offered more money than they were looking for them and they didn't budge. They're running a CHARITY STORE for crying out loud.

Wasn't there something like this planned a couple of years ago? I don't think it got off the ground though. :(

Hopefully this one will have better luck!

I am glad to hear such reactions. I let it another few days (lots of work to do and some studies to add a little stress) and I will produce some letters to walk around.
There was no response from the radio-association, so I will try to contact local clubs mentioned in the link.
