Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wedding Photography for Beginners (Half Day Course) in St. Mary's Church, Leixlip, Co. Dublin
Aimed at those who want to get paid for shooting weddings

Has anyone done this course provided by http://www.digitalbeginners.ie/courses/wedding_halfday.htm ?

Ive a few friends weddings coming up in the next year or so and thinking of doing one of these courses. I wont be getting paid for taking any of the photos but will probably do up a photo album as part of my wedding present and I would like to improve on previous weddings snaps that Ive taken.

not personally but there have been a few here on boards that have done this as its been referenced before. I think the courses from digitalbeginners (the institute of photography) have been well received generally. Dave from digitalbeginners posts here from time to time (he was to go travelling I think so i'm not sure if he's back).

These courses are very well subscribed so it is a testament to the course. I know of a few that have done it and use it as the basic building blocks to try and help out family or friends as you hope to.

I did this one with Digital Begineers last December, was very pleased with it. If you have any specific questions then drop me a line.

    p.s. here's a link to the pics I took on the day - http://www.flickr.com/photos/arciphel/sets/72157603465952207/

debbie, they only have about 6 people per class. They split you into two groups of three and they go through your typical wedding shots - groom waiting for bride, bride arrives with father, up the aisle, handing over the bride, lighting candles, exchanging rings, down the aisle and then some posed shots in the grounds. they do the full run about four times so you have plenty of time to get your shots. It's great experience as well dealing with models who will actually do what you tell them ;) even if you have no plans to shoot weddings professionally any time soon.

some people will push to the front to get a shot. others will be left at the back. so makesure you don't stand back too much!

Thanks I think I might give it shot, sure even if i learn one or two things, surely that would stand to me in the long run, since everyone I know seems to be getting married or engaged lately, sure it could even give me ideas if I get married some day.

Thanks Arciphel for your link, it gives me a good idea what to expect should i do it. And if I do go on the course, id be one of the feckers up in the front making sure I was getting my moneys worth :p

I wouldn't worry about that, the instructor is good at making sure everyone gets equal time in the good shooting positions. It's not like scrumming with the papparazzi outside Britney's house! :pac:

I did this last December (2008) as well, found it interesting though was pissed as my 50mm 1.8 broke that day :(

Should have waited till I had a better selection of lens but overall its worth going to and its decent value.

    Hi

Just wanted to say that Dave's classes are excellent and the tuition and opportunities afforded to everyone are great.

Do the course - but know how to operate your camera using manual settings - simply using the auto settings is notgood enough to do these courses justice.

Thanks guys for your feed back on this course. I took the plunge today and I am more than delighted for attending the course.
Id def recommend it without a douth. It is well run, and the models were excelent. Id say the bride went home with a pain in her jaw this evening from smiling. She and the groom and the little flower girl were so natural posing for us, you couldnt have asked for anything more.
If your wondering wether or not should u do this course, I def think you should, I think it will def stand to you.

Hi, I'm new here. I'm form Poland and I took many weddings there. Now I'm here and I try to do something but to this day without customers, so my main question is "How to find first customer?"
Another question is to car, do you think that the course will help you to find customers? If they teach how to find customer, where etc. maybe and I will go on that course.

They dont teach you to find customers on the course, to be honest Id say most people start off by taking friends and family photos and by these people showing other people, basically it is word of mouth that gets you business. If you have do weddings in Poland surely you have enough to do up a Portfilo.

Im not in the business yet, but hopefully in a few years I will be good enough to do weddings, I did this course so I could take better photos at my friends and family weddings in the future. I learnt loads at the course, and got a few very good shots, if I do say so myself.

What kind of gear would you need to do one of these courses? Or what is the minimum that you'd need?

Thanks for your answer and I wish you many good shots.
