So what your saying is that you cant back up your opinion by answering a simple hypothetical, fair enough those who are unwilling to be involved in an inteligent debate usually do so because they know they are not inteligent enough to argue their corner. Im not saying that's the reason why your not willing to prove your point of course, no of course not :D

    You spelt intelligent wrong..

A thread about undertaking turns into a trainwreck yet again :pac:

    Lol...

The ability of the Irish motorist to pontificate like they're as infallible as the bloody Pope never ceases to amaze me. You've all ****ing sped at sometime, now shuttup bitching.

    I mean seriously...

1: The Hilux driver was a bollox, regardless of the limit. Giving someone a brake-test could well be considered careless driving. Also, regardless of the speed limit, the right hand lane is only ever an overtaking lane.

2: Unnecessarily low speed limits breed a disrespect for a low limit in a place where it might actually be needed.

3: There is a difference between the posted speed limit, and the safe maximum speed. Sometimes it's lower, sometimes it's higher.

Its an irish forum, hence its mainly irish posters and considering that the majority of irish people drive as well as an elephant skates its not really surprising now is it.

and stifz thank you so very much for helping with my spelling but the fact that you can take the time to type your pedantic comment and not take use it to argue your case tells me one thing and one thing only, you have no idea how to answer a simple question.

    My head hurts.

When are we going to get a Traffic Police Force?

Not a Garda Traffic Cor. A seperate force.

A force that is not allowed to investigate or get involved in anything but traffic law, who drive differently marked cars, who wear different uniforms, etc.

It will go a long way to educating people how to drive.

I can just imagine the conversation down the pub - 'That bar**ard traffic cop was at the Walkinstown roundabout again today. I saw him pull a guy for not indicating properly. You had better drive properly if you go that way!'

Having checked penaltypoints.ie, there's 1 point for not driving on the left - for the hilux driver; and 2 for speeding for the op and hilux driver; and 2 for failure to leave appropriate distance between you and the vehicle in front.
    and none for the undertakers.

There was a guy disqualified from driving in the Wesht last week for holding up traffic in his tractor. So it can happen!!!

So in a temper I undertake him and drive alongside him and open my window. He actually had the cheek to give out to me saying the speed limit is 60KPH!!!! I gave him a peace of my mind and drove off.

The two of you were having a conversation, or shouting match, at 80kph in a 60kph zone, shortly after one of you had slammed on the brakes and the other was in the process of undertaking at speed. That just about sums up this whole thread. Trainwreck.

Then the driver in front of me, I think a Scenic, moved into the driving lane. He got fed up of waiting for the other driver to move so he gave up trying to overtake him.
So I'm behind the Hilux with the driving lane empty and wanting to overtake. So I put the indicator on and give him a double flash to get his attention to please move over.
At this point we were going about 80 KPH.

OP, why did'nt you just do what the Scenic driver did, and undertake him ? As you were over the speed limit anyway, I'm assuming it wasn't the idea of breaking the law that stopped you undertaking him ?
I'm no saint on the roads myself, and tbh, do tend to drive over the limit at times, so I'm not having a pop at you on that score.
What the pick-up driver was doing was inconsiderate driving. Your reaction to it was inconsiderate driving. This then led to him resorting to dangerous driving.
I reckon if we could somehow get action replays of every accident that ever happened, we would find that countless people have died in circumstances very similar to what you have described.

    Live and learn.

I couldn't believe wht had happened.

Why didn't you just pass him using the inside lane without all the drama?

Because anyone stupid enough to drive in the overtaking lane when the driving lane is clear is also stupid enough to swerve from lane to lane without looking.?

Wow this thread is gone to pot in 24 hours.
The answer is to rear end the lane hogger, just to teach him a lesson. But at no time exceed the speed limit. Follow him home and kill his pets. Undertaking should never be done, unless you need to do it. Keep at least 2 miles between you and other motorist. Relax and take your time, speedup and get agressive also.

Dont flash your lights and blow your horn. Instead wave your lad out the window (if safe to do so given the prevailing driving conditions). This will get the hoggers attention, and cause them to pull over into the "slow" lane.

We have the speed Nazi's and spelling/grammar Nazi's taking over!
