If your trade is on the new SOL list which was announced in July then you can apply for a 176 State sponsored visa on 100 points- however you have to wait for each state to announce their new state migration plan( which should happen in the next month) and hope that your trade is on one of the plans.

If it is you will be classified as a Cat 2 applicant and will expect processing time of 6 months. It could take another 6 months to get Skills assessed and state sponsorship.

The other alternative is to try and use any contacts you have in oz already and get a company to sponsor you- 1/2 the processing time.

I am a family man like yourself and know exactly how you feel
    All the best

Hi thanks tristanguner every bit of information helps. my wife's grandfather has a brother over there would this be of any use he's 79

See attached for eligible family members able to sponsor.

Really with your age at 39 you are going struggle for points you will have to do the International English test to get the max 25 points for that but even then since you haven't worked in 2 years that might still keep you short of points since you require to have worked at least 12 out of the 24 months before lodgment.

For an offshore employer sponsored PR you still need a skills assessment, not sure how not working in 2 years could affect that either.

    Good luck anyway

Im looking at heading out there to find work. From what ive seen, there is plenty of it aswell. And to be honest, im just so depressed here in Ireland, not working, I cant wait to leave the place.

I have an ordinary degree in Building Services Engineering and I am doing an Honors add on year in Fire Safety Engineering. I heard there is work in Oz for fire engineers on the oil rigs, does anybody know about this or where I should look to find out more?
I am a 36 year old mature student and even though I dont have experience working as an engineer I am working as a chef while I go through college, is there anything to stop me applying as a chef and then looking for work as an engineer?

On a 175 no once you are here you are free to seek employment as you choose.

I think that Chef is on Schedule 4 which means you need state sponsorship so it would be a 176.

What is the 2 year study requirement for the Australian visa about, I never heard of it before. Does it replace the need to have worked in a certain occupation for the previous few years? Is it just for study completed in Australia?

    Hi folks,

I'm planning on moving to either Oz or NZ at the start on Jan.
I've a few years experience working as a Quantity Surveyor.
Can anybody please tell me whether there's many opportunities available in this field in either Oz or NZ?
If so, which are the best cities/locations to find employment?

    Thanks in advance!

couple of my mates have picked up work easily as QS in Sydney. Seems to be a good bit of work here anyway. Getting into the mining companies is where the money is, using Perth as your base is probably the best bet if that is your aim.

How's the jobfront for the I.T. sector in New Zealand? Thinking of heading to NZ for a year with my girlfriend who's in marketing. Travelled around there last year, but can't really think of a place to base ourselves. Christchurch seemed nice?

+ 1 millions CHCH is brilliant BUT and a very big but very hard to get IT work especially on a WHV. Might be a bit easier now you will have an easier time to get a job in Wellington.

    Go for it though!

For Australia are you talking about getting a skilled Permanent visa?

A diploma in Electronic Engineering and 3 years (out of the last 4 years) relevant industry experience would be enough to satisfy the skills assessment before applying for the visa.

The accounting technician course would be useless unless you have 3 years experience.

I would start here and see if you qualify for emigration http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/175/eligibility-applicant.htm

You don't have much time if you're thinking of getting a skilled migration visa so. To qualify, you need 12 months work experience within the last 2 years in a field relevant to your degree. I've seen a good few civil engineering jobs posted on the jobs boards; seek.com.au is where most companies advertise.

Hows the car industry going? I'll be qualified next year as a car mechanic. I might make a dive down there maybe early 2012. Anyone know how car mechanics are getting on?

She's a nurse and im and engineer (mechanical) with 10 years experience between the both of us.
What is the job market at the moment.
Were both employed at the moment and afraid to give up our jobs in case it does not work out in australia.

Nothing is certain, but there are always jobs in Nursing, and engineering seems to be going well too.

Hi folks my wife and I are 40 yr old medical scientists with about 16-17 yrs experience and 2 kids.I have a couple of queries..
1.What are the prospects of employment in our sector in oz/nz?
    2. Are there recruitment companies who specialise in sponsorship in medical/medcial sciences in oz/nz
3.Are we better off to wait until July 2011 in the light of changed immigration policies in oz, or should we try to get sponsorship staight away?

Thanks in advance for any advice given,

    daithi

I reckon youre laughing, anything with medical and that sort of experience and you can't go wrong. Although I wouldn't wait around I would start putting the feelers out now.

    Heya!

Got my WHV and am planning on heading out to Melbourne at the end of Jan/start of Feb, just wondering what the work situation is like over there at that time of year as they'll be heading into Autumn down there? will mainly be looking for cafe/restaraunt/bar/retail/clerical jobs..basically anything that will keep things going!

Appreciate any info as I am getting slightly worried because this is the only time I can go, I cant put it off until June/July, and am afraid i'll end up jobless!!!?! :0

    Thank you!!

    also have electronics diploma.
If you are thinking of going for the oz skills visa bear in mind diploma in electronics will only get you 40 points as opposed to 60 for most professions.
so this might not bring up you up to the mark you need.
With the new visa guidelines coming in next july you may be better off waiting until then before applying.

Hey I was wondering if anyone could give me some clear answers (looking around the internet gives so much different information).

Anyway I'm a civil engineering graduate with no experience, not for lack of desperately trying, and am planning to move to Perth by next summer to try get some engineering experience. I'm only really entitled to a WHV or Sponsership visa. I was thinking of a WHV but know people on those have a bad rep and jobs chances arent good on it. I've been putting loads of effort into building up my CV since finishing college so I was hoping a graduate entry job (which there are a good few in perth) would not be beyond me over there, the only thing lacking is work experience, I cant even get unpaid work here.

With no work experience I wouldnt know how to go about getting sponsership from a company. If a get a WHV can a company still sponser you and change you visa status.

    I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.
