Gas boiler water leak problem - Please help

    Hi,
I've an old gas boiler at home which suddenly started dripping water from the safety valve.
    Few days back the boiler
started making some strange noise and nearly a pint of water came out of the safety valve. After
this, it continously started dripping water(few drops) from the valve every time the boiler is
    starts to heat the water.
I called a professional boiler repairer and he replaced the valve but water is still dripping.
Could somebody please tell me is the process of water coming out of valve normal or is there
something wrong in the boiler? Another problem is water is dripping out of the valve on to the
boiler and I'm worried if it is spoiling anything inside. Though its dripping very few drops of
water, I'm sure it will damage the boiler. Isn't it?
I called the boiler repairer this morning and he asked me to tighten the screw which is below the valve to stop the water reaching the valve. I read in this forum that if I stop water reaching the valve it will burst the other pipes reaching the boiler. Is it correct?
I would appreciate if anybody suggest me what to do with this problem. Should I call the repairer and ask him to replace the valve again?
    Please advice me.
    Thanks
    G

When a discharge valve goes it indicates there is a problem, so by replacing the valve you don't deal with the fault that made the discharge valve open in the first place, in saying that, valves can let-by if there is dirt on the seating(so you may need to check if you have a dirty system), as you have replaced the valve and it's still leaking it would indicate the problem is still there, the valve is designed to open at 3 bar the normal operating pressure for a sealed system is between 1-2 bar(gauge on front of boiler) and anything from 0-1 bar for a tank fed semi sealed system, you need to look at why the valve is dripping so you would have to get a engineer to check is the filling loop or fill point on the system letting-by, is the expansion vessel OK(split inside, no charge inside) get the vessel checked, if the vessel is the problem then the pressure gauge will rise quickly as the boiler gets hotter up to 3 bar, is the boiler over heating which would go hand in hand with the boiler boiling up and making loud noises, you do need to get it sorted as the dripping is warning you that there is a problem, Gary
